    Folk Music

Which popular folk music group of the 1950s was comprised of Pete Seeger, Lee Hays, Ronnie Gilbert and Fred Hellerman?American Folk Music

The Weavers. Seeger and Hays were also members of the 1940s group the Almanac Singers. The Weavers had a big hits with "Tzena, Tzena, Tzena" and "Goodnight Irene."

Which hit for the Kingston Trio was originally a political campaign song?American Folk Music

MTA. "MTA," about the hike in Boston subway fares, was originally written for Walter O'Brien's 1949 campaign for mayor of Boston on the Progressive Party ticket. Ten years later, the Kingston Trio changed the song's lyrics from "vote for Walter O'Brien" to "vote for George O'Brien" because of the Progressive Party's association with the Communist Party, and had a hit.

Bob Dylan supposedly wrote "Positively 4th Street," which opened with the lyrics, "You got a lotta' nerve to say you are my friend," about which folk singer?American Folk Music

Phil Ochs. Others have speculated that the song was about Tom Paxton or other folk music purists who did not like Dylan's popular, less political music.

Which folk group had John Denver as a member?American Folk Music

The Mitchell Trio. Originally, the Chad Mitchell Trio, Denver joined up once Mitchell, himself, had left.

Which Christopher Guest movie parodies 1950s-60s folk music?American Folk Music

A Mighty Wind. In his very accurate send-up, Guest parodies some of the preppy folk groups such as the Kingston Trio.

On which Fairport Convention album is the track "Tam Lin"?British Folk Rock Music

Liege and Lief. This album, above all others, really broke down the barriers between rock and folk. Heady stuff!

Which group did Licorice and Rose play with?British Folk Rock Music

Incredible String Band. Robin and Mike's girlfiends respectively. Licorice went to the USA and was never heard from again, whilst Rose is now the Mayor of Aberystwyth in Wales!

Who has had albums entitled: "The Tain", "Happy To Meet, Sorry To Part" and "Blow The Cold Winter Away"?British Folk Rock Music

Horslips. As support to Steeleye Span on their first tour of England in 1973, Horslips blew them off stage. I was proud to have been in the audience at their Lancaster University gig.

This Magna Carta album released in 1970 was a superb slice of folk and gentle rock. What was it called?British Folk Rock Music

Seasons. Beautiful, lyrical album from this three-piece. "Airport Song" became a classic of its type.

On which album did John Martyn sing about the devil?British Folk Rock Music

Solid Air. John Martyn and his echoplex guitar will be an abiding memory to me after his performance of "Solid Air" on the "Old Grey Whistle Test".

Who had an album entilted "Henry the Human Fly"?British Folk Rock Music

Richard Thompson. Been on the scene for what seems like an aeon, Richard still draws the crowds and the plaudits wherever he plays.

Who were the "Silly Sisters"?British Folk Rock Music

June Tabor and Maddy Prior. They did an album in the 1970's. Too much critical dis-acclaim!
