Orignally the band were called His Infernal Majesty because Ville Valo loved horror movies and people thought His Infernal Majesty to be a satanic moniker and so the band shortened it to HIM and the band liked it because it was easy to pronounce in every language. Later, they said that the initials didn't stand for anything.
