2004 Athens
1500 & 5000m. He's the only track and field athlete (MAN) at the Games (2004) to strike gold in two individual events. The only other runner to complete the 1,500-5,000 double was Finland's Paavo Nurmi in 1924.
Gold Medal. This was Israel's first gold medal in any Olympic sport. Fridman won it in windsurfing, the men's mistral.
Zimbabwe. Kristy swims at Auburn University, her family lives in the Zimbabwe capital of Harare. She also won a silver in the 100 backstroke and a bronze in the 200 individual medley.

71.53 m. Menendez set the mark on her first attempt in the final. The previous record was 68.91m set by Trine Hattestad (Norway).
Yelena Isinbayeva. Isinbayeva, (Russia), broke the record for the fourth time in two months, to set a new record of 4.91m.
12. Thompson's medal gives her the most Olympic medals, breaking a tie with swimmer Mark Spitz and Matt Biondi and shooter Carl Osburn.
