Atlanta Braves Trivia Questions

1. Which Atlanta Braves pitcher made his MLB debut on July 14, 1997, and amassed a total of 2,083 career strikeouts in his career?

From Quiz
Operation Tomahawk

Answer: Kevin Milwood

Kevin Milwood began his Major League career in 1997 with the Atlanta Braves and remained in Atlanta unti the end of the 2002 season. In 2003, Milwood was traded to the Phillies. Kevin Milwood graduated from Bessemer City High School in Bessemer City, North Carolina.

2. In what three cities did the Braves win the 1914, 1957, and 1995 World Series?

From Quiz Braves Win! Braves Win! Braves Win!

Answer: Boston, Milwaukee, and Atlanta

The Braves franchise began in Boston in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings. They changed names in 1883 (Beaneaters), 1907 (Doves), and 1911 (Rustlers). In 1912 they finally chose the name Braves, just two years before winning their first World Series. The 1957 Milwaukee Braves won the World Series with one of the greatest home run hitting duos in baseball history in Henry Aaron and Ed Mathews, along with with one of MLB's winningest left-handers of all time in Warren Spahn. In 1995, again with an outstanding pitching staff, the Braves brought Atlanta its first ever major professional world championship.

3. Who was the first player in the franchise's history that was inducted into the Hall of Fame after playing for the Braves, but not necessarily inducted as a Brave?

From Quiz The Braves Franchise

Answer: Babe Ruth

Ruth's notoriety was mainly with the Red Sox and Yankees of the American League, but his final season in 1935 was with the Boston Braves. Ruth was one of the first five inducted into the hall in 1936. Cy Young was the second Braves player inducted. Young was inducted into the hall in 1937, after playing his final season with the Braves in 1911.

4. The franchise began in the National Association in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings. From there it was on to the new National League in 1876. Finally, the franchise moved to which city in 1953, and played there until the mid-1960s?

From Quiz The Brave Ones

Answer: Milwaukee

The inaugural season of the Milwaukee Braves found them finishing second behind the Brooklyn Dodgers. It was only the second time that the franchise would finish second or better since 1915. Only good things were ahead by winning the franchise's second World Series in 1957.

5. The Braves franchise joined the National League with the league's inception in 1876, but this wasn't the first time that the world saw this franchise. They began it all in 1871 under the name of the Boston Red Stockings in which league?

From Quiz The Atlanta Braves!

Answer: National Association

It was this team name that some confuse the franchise with the American League Boston Red Sox. They were never connected. In the NA in 1871, in the team's first season ever, they finished third, two games back of the pennant-winning Philadelphia Athletics. Boston's season record was 20-10. Harry Wright led the team in many ways. He was the owner, manager, and outfielder for the team. Harry's brother George also played for the team at shortstop. Both ended up in the Hall of Fame. Brother George led the team by batting .413, while Al Spalding led their mound with a 19-10 record. Harry Wright also pitched in nine games, going 1-0 with three saves. From 1872-1875, the Red Stockings won the NA crown in each season, then the league folded after the 1875 season.
