Bolton Wanderers
Torquay United. The Sherpa Van Trophy was a competition for teams in the third and fourth divisions, and the teams were split up into North and South draws, until two teams met in the final. Bolton won this trophy by beating Torquay 4-1.
The Trotters. They were given this nickname because a former ground was near a pig farm, and stray balls would keep ending up in the pig pens!
69,912. This game took place on 18th February, 1933 against Manchester City.
Nathan Blake. Blake scored 12 goals in the league and 2 in the league cup. Since signing from Sheffield United, between 1996-98, he scored 48 goals in 124 games for Bolton before being sold to Blackburn Rovers.
2. In season 1995-96, Bolton finished bottom of the Premiership with 29 points, and only 8 wins out of 38 games. The following season, they finished Division One champions, and were promoted again, only to go straight back down in 1997-98 in 18th place on goal difference, when they lost 2-0 away to Chelsea, and Everton drew 1-1 at home to Coventry City on the final day of the season.
Bolton 13 Sheff Utd 0. The game took place on 1st February, 1890 in the FA Cup, second round, and set the record for their biggest victory in history.
1923. The Wanderers beat West Ham United 2-0 in the 1923 final, and won the Cup three more times in the 20th century. In 1926 they beat Manchester City 1-0, 1929 when they defeated Portsmouth 2-0, and in 1958, beating Manchester United 2-0.
Pike's Lane. Bolton played at Pike's Lane between 1880-95 before moving to Burnden Park, which was their home for over 100 years until moving into the Reebok Stadium in 1997.
1874. The club were formed in 1874 under the name Christ Church, but shortly changed their name to Bolton Wanderers, and were founder members of the Football League.
