NCAA Basketball Coaches
UCLA. Wooden coached UCLA from 1948-1975, and won 10 NCAA titles including 7 in a row (1966-1973). He compiled a win/loss record of 885-203.
The Wooden Award, which was named after him, is presented annually to the College Basketball Player of the Year. Coach Wooden still takes an active interest in college basketball.
Georgetown. Thompson had a win/loss record of 596-239. He won NCAA title in 1984. Coach Thompson brought such players as Allen Iverson, Pat Ewing, Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo to Georgetown.

Oklahoma St / Oklahoma A&M. Iba coached at Oklahoma St (formerly OK A&M)from 1935-1970. He had a 67% winning percentage. He was the first coach to win back to back NCAA Championships in 1945-1946. His teams were known for their tough defense.
Kentucky. "The Baron of the Bluegrass". He was second on all-time win list for Division I coaches with 879 wins when he retired. He compiled a win/loss record of 879-190 (82%), and led UK from 1930-1972. He won 4 NCAA titles.
Temple. In 2002, he ranked 4th with most wins among active NCAA Division I coaches (656 wins and counting).

North Carolina. Smith broke Adolph Rupps record of 879 wins with a victory over Louisville in the 1997 NCAA tournament. He retired at the end of that season. He coached UNC from 1961-1997. UNC played their home games at the Dean Smith Center, affectionately referred to by Tarheel fans as "The Dean Dome" in 2002.
Kansas. He claims to have learned from the inventor of basketball, James Naismith, at Kansas. He compiled a win/loss record of 770-223. He led the Jayhawks to the 1952 NCAA Championship.
Duke. He started coaching at Duke in 1981. Coach K is ranked first among active DI coaches in NCAA tournament victories with 58. He has won more than one 3 National titles.
Western Kentucky University. Diddle won 759 games in 42 seasons. Was the first coach to coach 1,000 games at the same school (WKU). He was considered a pioneer of "Fast Break Basktball". A quote from Coach Diddle:" "We play the fast break because it makes people come to our gymnasium, they like to see scoring. We give them what they like. I see it as entertainment."
University of North Carolina. Smith broke the coaching win record of Adolph Rupp in 1997, then was later surpassed by Bobby Knight in 2006. Dean took UNC to 11 Final Four tournaments and two NCAA titles.
Denny Crum. 1980 and 1986 saw the Cardinals win two NCAA Championships under Crum. In Denny's 30 seasons in Division I, he averaged 23 wins per season over his career.

John Thompson. Thompson received a 3-23 team when he took the helm of the Georgetown Hoyas. Coaching the Hoyas for over 25 seasons with many Final Four appearances, Thompson won the NCAA title in 1984.
John Wooden. The team was the UCLA Bruins. John helmed the team from 1948-1975. His heyday with the team was in the 1960s and 1970s, when he took the Bruins to 10 NCAA titles, amongst his 620 wins with them.
Adolph Rupp. Nicknamed, "The Man in the Brown Suit", Rupp had the helm of the Wildcats from 1930-1972. He retired with the most wins by a college coach, until Dean Smith broke his record. Rupp took the Wildcats to four NCAA Championships.

Quin Snyder. Quin was an All-American at Duke and showed potential as a recruiter by landing players like Rickey Paulding and Arthur Johnson, but apparently showed too much compassion in trying to help Ricky Clemons. Snyder is also the son-in-law of legendary NBA coach Larry Brown.

Bob Boyd. With UCLA winning National Championships and rostering players from Sidney Wicks, Henry Bibby, Lew Alcindor, and Bill Walton, the Bruins took the college limelight away from USC. Boyd himself was a former Trojan, winning the MVP in 1952. Before taking the helm of USC, he was the coach of Seattle University. Bob left USC for Mississippi State University.
Gene Keady. Gene won seven Big Ten Coach of the Year awards during his tenure at Purdue. He was at the helm from 1980-2005.
Bobby Knight. From 1965-1971, Bobby helmed the Army Black Knights from the NIT. From 1971-2000, Knight was at the helm of Indiana University. After his departure from the Hoosiers, he took on Texas Tech. In 1984, he also coached the USA Olympic basketball team to a Gold Medal. Knight was the first coach in history to win a NIT and NCAA Championship, along with a Gold Medal at the Olympics.
Cheryl Miller. Miller was a former player of the the Lady Trojans, and took her team to two tournaments berths in the NCAA in her two seasons at the helm. She left to pursue a broadcasting career. Cheryl is the older sister of former Indiana Pacers star Reggie Miller.
