After much protest, the team decided to remove the fan from the car from competing in future events. Shortly after this event, the use of a fan on an engine became illegal. His other win was the 1978 Italian Grand Prix, the race during which Ronnie Peterson was fatally injured. Niki finished third in the race, but was awarded the win after Mario Andretti and Gilles Villeneuve were penalized for a jump start.
