Commencing with the 1997-98 season, teams eliminated in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League qualified for the UEFA Cup, and from the 1999-00 season this was extended to teams finishing 3rd in the group stage of the Champions League. In 1999 the Cup-Winners Cup was abolished (it began in 1960) and merged with the UEFA Cup. The UEFA Intertoto Cup was abolished (it began in 1961) was merged with teh newly rebranbded Europa League. From 2014 the winners of the Europa League qualify for the next season's Champions League (straight to the group stage).

Ljupko was born on the 15th of May, 1947. After winning the European Cup with Red Star, he went on to manage other teams around Europe such as PAOK, Espanyol and Olympiakos, but with obviously less success. He managed Red Star a further two times after this.

2. In the 1989-90 UEFA Cup semi-finals the results in the 1st leg were: Juventus v FC Cologne 3-2 and SV Werder Bremen v AC Fiorentina 1-1. The 2nd legs of both games had the same scoreline: what was it?

He became the first player to win the European cup with two different teams.

Before 80 minutes had elapsed in the second leg in Dresden, objects were thrown onto the field and the referee had no choice but to abandon the game. Red Star were leading 2-1 at the time, but were awarded a 3-0 victory after the game. This was not the only controversial outcome in a game in the European cup that year. Milan refused to play the last few minutes of a game against Red Star's final opponents, Marseilles, and a similar result was awarded to the French team.
