 Amazing Race 11
Miami. In this race, eleven teams comprised of racers from previous seasons departed from Miami, Florida and took a flight to Quito, Ecuador. Teams could choose from two different flights six teams boarded a Copa Airlines flight arriving later, but departing earlier, while five teams taking a later departure time on an American Airlines flight arrived nearly two hours earlier. Once in Quito, teams needed to locate the Plaza San Francisco.

Teri and Ian. After obtaining their first clue at Plaza San Francisco, teams were instructed to head three miles to Pim's Restaurant where the manager would give them something. This turned out to be a departure time to leave for their next destination. Four teams departed at 7:00am, four at 7:15am, and three at 7:30am.
None. Once departing from Quito, teams were told to head sixty-five miles to Cotopaxi National Park. Once there, they had to enter the north entrance. Once they found Hacienda Yanahurko, they could find their Detour clue. In 'Recover It', one team member needed to dress up in a general's outfit and search the hills for three objects missing from their outfit. None of the teams completed this task.
Horses. In 'Wrangle It', teams needed to choose two Chakras, who would help them wrangle one wild horse. After this, they would need to use clippers and shears to both cut the nails and hair of the horse. Once the horse was released back into the herd, teams could receive their next clue. All eleven teams in this leg of the race completed this task over 'Recover It'.
John Vito and Jill. After completing the Detour, teams were instructed to travel by foot to their next Pit Stop, Mirador Cotopaxi, up a large hill. Rob and Amber were the first team to arrive here and won a trip to Whistler, British Columbia. John Vito and Jill, who accidentally entered the south entrance of the park, were the last team to arrive at the Pit Stop, and were the first eliminated.
Chile. After departing from the first Pit Stop atop the hill in Cotopaxi National Park, Ecuador, teams were instructed to head to the airport and take the next flight to Santiago, Chile, more than two thousand four hundred miles away. Once teams arrived, they would need to reach the Codelco corporate headquarters, the world's largest copper mine, nearly twelve miles away. This is the second "Amazing Race" to feature the city of Santiago.
Danielle. In the first Road Block of the race, teams needed to choose one member to enter the ground floor boardroom of the Codelco headquarters and find various letters (on the floor, businessmen, pens, lighters, etc.) that when unscrambled would spell the destination on a plaque on the wall (Chuquicamata). When they mentioned this destination to a guard, they could obtain their next clue. Joyce, Eric, Mary, Amber, Ian, Oswald, Dustin, Bill, Charla, and Kevin completed this task.
Rob and Amber. After obtaining their clue at Codelco, teams were told to fly two hundred thirty miles to Calama Airport, then to drive to Chuquicamata, home of the world's largest open pit copper mine. Here, teams obtained their Detour clues. In the 'By Hand' task, teams were told to align and properly attach a two-ton tire to a dump truck on the site. Once this was done, they would obtain the next clue.
Two. Only Rob and Amber and Bill and Joe decided to finish this Detour task. To complete it, teams needed to take turns driving a large frontloader in order to transport gravel to a marked area. Once they transported enough gravel to a certain height, they could carry on in the race. After the Detour, teams were instructed to drive more than seventy miles to the Valley of the Moon.
Kevin and Drew. When teams arrived in the sandy land of the Valley of the Moon, they were required to drive to the Valley of the Dead, which held the second Pit Stop of the race. Rob and Amber, who breezed through the Detour (since Rob is a construction worker), arrived at the Pit Stop in first place, winning them a pair of motorcycles. Kevin and Drew fell to last place following the Detour and were ultimately eliminated from the race.
Chile. In the beginning of Leg 3, teams were instructed to drive four miles through the Valley of the Dead to San Pedro de Atacama where their next clue would be found outside the town church. Here, teams were told to fly more than eight hundred miles from Santiago to Puerto Montt. Once they landed, teams were told to travel by car to a fishery in Metri, thirty miles away.
Rob. During the second Road Block of the race, teams were first required to jump into a large fish breeding tank. Once team members transferred eighty fish from a tank to a larger holding tank across the field, they could hop back in and copy their clue on the bottom of the tank. Amber, Danielle, Uchenna, Danny, Teri, Bill, Kandice, David, and Mirna participated in this task.
None. After the Road Block, teams needed to read their clues and drive nearly fifty miles to the outskirts of the town of Petrohué, where they could find their clues at La Moquina. For the first Detour task, teams could choose 'Vertical Limit', which required that the participants climb a forty foot rock wall to obtain two halves of a clue that would need to be read. None of the teams completed this task.
River Wild. In 'River Wild', teams needed to drive two miles back the way they came and complete a two and a half mile river rapids course containing category three and four rapids. All nine teams in the race completed this Detour task. After the task, teams were instructed to drive three and a half miles to the Pit Stop: Playa Petrohué.
David and Mary. Arriving at the black sand beaches of Playa Petrohué, teams checked in at their third Pit Stop. Rob and Amber, who placed first in the first two legs of the race, once again reigned as the first place team and won a set of home gyms because of it. David and Mary, who got lost on the way to Petrohué, were unable to make up for lost ground and became the third team to be eliminated.
Joe and Bill. Teams departed from the third Pit Stop at Playa Petrohué and were told to travel by plane eight hundred miles to Punta Arenas, Chile. At this point, teams were split up onto two different flights departing from Puerto Montt. Once teams landed in this city, they were told to take a taxi to Lord Lonsdale's shipwreck on the Chilean coast where they could find a clue box.
Sign It. Once arriving at the shipwreck, teams obtained the Detour task for Leg 4. Teams could choose between 'Navigate It' and 'Sign It'. In 'Navigate It', teams needed to follow a map to a nearby plaza to obtain a compass. Using this, teams needed to head south to the Nautilus building where their clue would be given to them. In 'Sign It', teams needed to gather materials for a signpost and create a pole containing the fourteen ports of call used by Magellan. Uchenna and Joyce completed the 'Sign It' task while the others completed 'Navigate It'.
Teri and Ian. After completing the Detour for this leg of the race, teams were required to take a charter plane to Ushuaia, Argentina. These planes would depart three hours apart from one another. After flying one hundred sixty-five miles, teams needed to drive by taxi to Playa Larga Beach on the Beagle Channel. Charter plane #1 contained Oswald and Danny, Eric and Danielle, and Teri and Ian, while the remaining teams boarded the second flight.

Two. After finding the clue at Playa Larga, teams made their way by taxi to Bahia Lapathia where they needed to take a number for a ferry that would take them to Isla Redonda, one of the southern-most points of the western hemisphere. The boat could carry two teams at a time and it departed every twenty minutes. Once at the post office on the island, teams obtained their Road Block which required that on team member search a mailbag of one thousand six hundred letters to find one of two addressed to them from a team in a previous race. Eric, Oswald, Teri, Joe, Kandice, Rob, Joyce, and Mirna finished this task.
Rob and Amber. After the Road Block, teams were required to make their way on foot around a trail around the island containing the post office to find their Pit Stop for this leg of the race. Oswald and Danny were first to arrive at the Pit Stop and they won a trip to Maui. Last place, surprisingly, went to Rob and Amber, who placed first in the previous three legs. They were the fourth team eliminated.
Mozambique. In the beginning of Leg 5, teams departed from the Pit Stop at the southern tip of Mastil de General Belgrano on Tierra del Fuego in Argentina with the instructions to head to Marshall Glacier. Here, teams had to take a chairlift and hike 1.5 miles to use an avalanche beacon to locate and dig for their next clue buried in the snow. Once teams found this, they were required to fly 7,000 miles to Maputo, Mozambique.
Rat. Once teams landed in Mozambique, they needed to head to Apopo Training Field, forty-five miles away from the airport. Here, teams began their fourth Road Block task. This required that one team member from each team use a rat to detect a deactivated landmine buried in a specific area. Once a team member successfully used the rat to locate a flag, they'd receive their clue. Joe, Eric, Oswald, Charla, Ian, Dustin and Uchenna finished this task.
Three. After the Road Block, teams were sent back to the city of Maputo where they needed to locate a clue box at Praça dos Trabalhadores near the center of the city. This is where teams obtained the clue containing their Detour tasks. In this Detour, the first task was 'Pamper', which required that teams travel half a mile to a nearby marked to paint enough fingernails to earn thirty metecais. Charla and Mirna, Dustin and Kandice and Teri and Ian completed this Detour quite quickly.
Ten. Teams completing the second Detour task were introduced to the 'Porter' option. In this task, teams needed to travel two miles to Market de Janet where they needed to fill ten sacks with coal, then sew them shut. After this, one bag of coal needed to be carried to a location given by their supervisor. After the delivery, the recipient would give the clue to the team. Joe and Bill, Oswald and Danny, Eric and Danielle, and Uchenna and Joyce completed this task.
Charla and Mirna. After the Detour task, teams were instructed to make their way to the Pit Stop which could be found at Fortaleza, the oldest building in Maputo. The first team to arrive, Charla and Mirna, claimed their first 'first place' win and also received a trip to Aruba for after the race. Uchenna and Joyce, the last team to touch the mat, were not eliminated, but they were declared 'Marked for Elimination'.
Tanzania. In the beginning of Leg 6, teams left the Pit Stop in Maputo, Mozambique and were told to catch the next flight to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Once there, teams needed to travel ten miles by taxi to a ferry station where they could take a number. Teams would leave the ferry station to the island of Zanzibar in boats corresponding to the numbers that they pulled.
Teri and Ian. The seven remaining teams were separated on four different dhow boats at the Dar Es Salaam ferry terminal departing at 5:30am, 8:30am, and two following times. Inclement weather brought many of the front teams together in the boats early in the morning. Once teams reached Zanzibar they found their clue box at a marked kiosk.
Solve It. Once teams arrived at Zanzibar, they found their Detour; a choice between 'Solve It' and 'Schlep It'. In 'Solve It', teams needed to travel a third of a mile to a location where they could complete a sixty-two piece puzzle. Charla and Mirna, Oswald and Danny, Uchenna and Joyce, and Eric and Danielle, Teri and Ian, and Bill and Joe completed this task. In 'Schlep It', teams needed to go to a lumber yard nearby and place two fifty pound logs on a cart to wheel more than a mile to a shipyard. Dustin and Kandice completed this task.
Joyce. After the Detour, teams were told to travel fifteen miles to the small village of Kikungwi where they would find their next clue- the Road Block. Team members completing this task needed to be on target as it would have them tossing a hunting tool called a rungo at a clay figure. Mirna, Oswald, Kandice, Uchenna, Danielle, Joe, and Ian finished this task.
Teri and Ian. After the Road Block, teams were instructed to drive fifteen miles by taxi to Stonetown where they could find the sixth Pit Stop at Old Fort. Here, Charla and Mirna once again placed first. Because of this, they won a couple of catamarans. The final team to arrive (and on the next day at that) was Teri and Ian, and because of this they were the fifth team eliminated from the race.
Eric and Danielle. Teams (some more than sixteen hours apart) opened their first clue of Leg 7 at Zanzibar's Old Fort. This clue directed them to Warsaw, Poland, more than five thousand miles away. Teams had the option of using tickets letting them arrive at a set time or getting earlier tickets. The two teams taking the designated tickets ended up trapped at Kilimanjaro Airport when their plane arrived minutes too late. This put them hours behind.
