Amazing Race 14
Build a surfboard wall. In the final leg of the race, teams made their way to Kaohu Farms on Hana Highway in Maui. Here, Victor, Luke, and Jaime finished the final task requiring that one member of each team search through over three hundred surfboards for eleven depicting places visited in the previous legs of the race. Not only that, but teams needed to place them into the correct order (including the two halves of Leg 10). This would prove to be a very important task in deciding the fate of the final three teams on their way to the finish line.
Margie. In the Donghuamen Night Market in Beijing, China, teams were required to find a stall at which they would be completing their Road Block tasks. For this one, team members needed to fry up a series of Chinese delicacies at a stall, then eat them all to receive their next clue. This early morning breakfast included larva, grasshoppers, a scorpion, and a starfish. When team members completed their dish, they would receive the clue leading to their final Pit Stop, the Bird's Nest. Victor, Margie, Jen and Cara completed this task.
Foot. In one of the more unique Road Blocks of the race, teams headed to Beijing's Liangzi Foot Massage Palace and discovered that their next Road Block would involved receiving a ten minute foot massage. What teams didn't know was that their massage would be quite the painful 'healing technique'. Team members would also need to down two cups of Chinese herbal tea. If teams couldn't bear the pain, they would need to say uncle and start the task from the beginning. Cara, Kisha, Tammy, and Luke finished this task.
Cormorant. In Leg 9, teams found their Road Block task waiting near a bridge over looking the Li River in Guilin, China. Here, one member of each team (Tammy, Jaime, Jen, Luke, and Michael) needed to hop into a boat, head to the middle of the lake, and sit on a platform to teach a local bird known as a cormorant how to catch fish. Once the team members tossed ten fish into the water and had their birds retrieve them, they could return to land and trade the basket of fish for their next clue.
Victor. In Leg 5, teams found their Road Block outside Gosudarstvennaya Publichnaya Nauchnaya Tekhnicheskaya Biblioteka (which is a library) and were told to choose a member with stamina and no shame. This task, completed by Luke, Cara, Tammy, Mike, Mark, Jen, and Christie, required that one member of each team perform a mandatory ten minutes of warm-up before stripping down to their underwear and jogging nearly one and a half miles to the location of their next Pit Stop, Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, where their teammate would be waiting for them.
Gymnastics. In Leg 3, teams flew to the city of Bucharest, Romania and found their Road Block task waiting at Complexul Sportiv National Lia Manoliu, a gymnast training center in the heart of Romania's capital. Here, one member of each team needed to wear a gymnastic outfit and perform routines on the balance beam, the parallel bars, and on the floor in order to receive their next clue. Amanda, Margie, Mike, Mark, Kisha, Jaime, Jodi, Tammy, and Victoria performed this Road Block task before moving on to Transylvania.
Switzerland. After an overnight stay in Locarno, Switzerland, teams took an early trip to the Verzasca Dam in Tenero-Contra to complete the first Road Block of the race. for this task, one member of each team needed to perform a seventy story bungee jump over the edge of the dam. Jaime, Jen, Jodi, Kris, Luke, Michael, Mike, Preston, Steve, Victor, and Victoria completed this Road Block before teams made their way to Kleine Rugen Wiese in Interlaken, Switzerland.
Kisha and Jen. In the final Detour, teams found themselves at Huguang Guild Hall in Beijing completing a final Detour task. In 'Beijing Opera', teams needed to go backstage at a local opera house and complete their teammate's makeup to match one of two models. When they dressed up as their models, complete with makeup, they would receive their next clue. Jaime and Cara, Margie and Luke, and Kisha and Jen completed this task. In 'Chinese Waiter', teams needed to take five orders from patrons at a local restaurant, in Mandarin, and recite them to the waiter. When this food was made, they would then need to serve it to the proper customers to get their clue. Tammy and Victor chose this task before U-Turning Kisha and Jen, thus forcing them to complete the task as well.
'Swim'. Teams found their Detour task at the Guangcai Natatorium in Beijing and were confronted with a choice between 'Sync' and 'Swim'. In 'Sync', teams needed to dive off three-meter high diving boards into an Olympic pool to receive their next clue. However, teams needed to be in sync, hitting the water at the same time and receiving a score of 5 from both judges. In 'Swim', teams needed to complete a relay in an Olympic pool alternating between 100m laps for a total of 400m. While Tammy and Victor and Kisha and Jen initially chose 'Sync', all four teams completed 'Swim' before heading to Phil and the mat at the Beijing Drum Tower.
Jaime and Cara. In Leg 9, teams arrived at the Ancient South Gate in Guilin, China to find their Detour, a choice between 'Choreography' and 'Calligraphy'. Jaime and Cara and Mark and Michael completed 'Choreography' which involved teams learning a dance and performing it for the duration of a song to the approval of two dance judges to receive their clue. Kisha and Jen, Tammy and Victor, and Margie and Luke completed 'Calligraphy' in which the teams had to transcribe Chinese characters onto pads of paper to the approval of their judges at four different calligraphy stations around the nearby park. After this task, teams ran to the next Pit Stop overlooking the Sun and Moon Pagodas.
'Broken Record'. Teams continued through Thailand in Leg 8 of the race, this time heading to the city of Bangkok. Once they completed the Road Block, teams had to choose their Detour task, either 'Broken Teeth' or 'Broken Record'. In 'Broken Teeth', which Margie and Luke completed, teams needed to go to the 'Street of Happy Smiles' to insert dentures into five peoples' mouths and correctly fit them to receive their next clue. In 'Broken Record', completed by the other four remaining teams, they needed to hire a party taxi at a certain location and travel with three 'women' (actually transsexual men...welcome to Thailand) five miles to their next destination while singing Thai karaoke. After this, teams went to the Pit Stop at Phaya Thai Palace.
India. In Leg 6, teams headed to Jaipur, India for a series of tasks. Here, teams found a Detour task at a puppet store and they needed to choose between 'Movers' and 'Shakers'. In 'Movers', teams needed to ride cycle rickshaws one and a half miles through the city of Jaipur to a location where they would need to empty the contents they carried, ten large barrels filled with hay, to find a small, metal elephant to trade for their next clue. Only Mark and Michael finished this task. In 'Shakers', teams donned horse costumes and danced for money in the streets of Jaipur. When teams earned one hundred rupees, they traded them for the next clue directing them to the Pit Stop at Jaigarh Fort. All of the other teams finished this task.
A church. Heading across Russia via the Trans-Siberian Railway, teams found a Detour task at the Punkt Tekhnicheskogo Osmotra in Novosibirsk and chose between 'Russian Bride' and 'Russian Snowplow'. In 'Russian Bride', teams needed to locate the apartment of a Russian bride in a complex in Novosibirsk, then drive her to her groom at a city chapel. Mel and Mike, Kisha and Jen, and Christie and Jodi finished this Detour task. In 'Russian Snowplow', teams needed to go to a city lot and drive a large Russian snowplow along a marked course to receive their clue. Tammy and Victor, Margie and Luke, Jaime and Cara, and Mark and Michael completed this one.
Amanda and Kris. In Leg 4, teams made their way to Siberia, Russia and teams completed a series of tasks relating to the locals' way of life. In the Detour, found at the Church of Saint Innokenty in Ovsyanka, teams chose between 'Stack' and 'Construct'. In 'Stack', teams needed to properly stack a wall of firewood next to a given example. If this wall (or the example) fell over, teams would need to build up both. Christie and Jodi, Kisha and Jen, Margie and Luke, Jaime and Cara, and Tammy and Victor finished 'Stack'. In 'Construct', teams needed to head to a nearby village and construct and mount a set of window shutters. Mike and Mel, Mark and Michael, and Amanda and Kris finished this. After the Detour, Margie and Luke used a 'Blind U-Turn' to anonymously force Amanda and Kris to return and complete the other Detour task causing their elimination.
Kisha and Jen. In Leg 3, teams headed by plane to Romania and then by train through the countryside to the town of Brasov in Transylvania. Here, teams located a Detour task at Biserica Neagra requiring the choice between 'Gypsy Move' and 'Vampire Remains'. In the former task, completed by Mike and Mel, Kisha and Jen, Amanda and Kris, and Mark and Michael, teams headed to a gypsy encampment and loaded belongings onto a horse-drawn cart to transport them to a nearby field. In 'Vampire Remains', the other five teams headed to a forest near Bran Castle to open coffins and stake wooden frames hidden inside to find race flags to trade for their next clue. After this, teams headed to the third Pit Stop at Vila Panoramic.
Steve and Linda. Reaching the city of Salzburg, Austria, teams were told to locate Schloss Hellbrunn, the location of their next Pit Stop. Here, Tammy and Victor achieved a first place win. As a result they were rewarded with hybrid go-karts, one each. Although Christie and Jodi ended up missing their last clue for a while, they once again took second-to-last place and stayed safe while Steve and Linda became the second team eliminated.

Austria. After the Detour, teams traveled on foot around the town of Schonau am Konigsee to the Holzsäger where wood-carved woodsmen would saw a log for the teams and an attendant would stamp their next clue on the piece. This clue led teams to their next Pit Stop in the city of Salzburg, Austria, Schloss Hellbrunn. To get there, teams needed to drive out of the Bavarian Alps and out of Germany.

Cherry. At the bottom of the Road Block mountain, teams were given a clue instructing them to drive twenty-five miles to the next route marker at Schonau am Konigsee. Here, teams found a Detour allowing teams to choose between 'Balancing Dolly' and 'Austrian Folly'. In 'Balancing Dolly', teams needed to take a two mile obstacle course on Segways to receive a clue. In 'Austrian Folly', teams needed to toss pies at one another's faces until they found one containing cherry filling to receive their clue. Mel and Mike, Jaime and Cara, Kisha and Jen, and Mark and Michael completed 'Balancing Dolly' while the other six teams finished 'Austrian Folly'.
Mel. Heading to Ruhpolding, teams found their second Road Block task at Rauschberg after taking a funicular to the top of a mountain. This task required that one member of each team paraglide down the side of a Bavarian mountain. If the winds were too unfavorable, team members would need to take an extensive hour-long hike down the side of the mountain. Tammy, Kris, Linda, Margie, Cara, Victoria, Jen, Christie, and Mark all ran down the mountain while Mel waited through the bad wind to paraglide down.

Germany. Departing from the Pit Stop at the Alpenhof Stechelberg, teams were informed that they would need to make their way to the airport to fly to Munich, Germany. Heading to the airport in Zurich, all ten teams took the same flight to their next destination. Once there, they would need to hop into taxis to make their way to the German town of Ruhpolding in Bavaria to find their next route marker waiting.
Preston and Jennifer. After a cheesy task, teams were told to drive themselves to Stechelberg to find a parking lot outside Hotel Stechelberg. Once there, teams would need to keep their ears open for the sound of yodelers who would signal the location of the race's first Pit Stop at Alpenhof Stechelberg. Here, Margie and Luke took a first place victory on the first leg winning a trip for two to Mexico courtesy of Travelocity. In the end, it came down to a footrace between Christy and Jodi and Preston and Jennifer where the latter team was the last to arrive. They became the first to be eliminated from the race.
Cheese. After the Road Block, teams headed to the train station to catch a ride to the city of Interlaken where they located their next clue box at Kleine Rugen Wiese. Here, both team members needed to strap into traditional cheese-carrying equipment and climb a steep hill to transport four wheels of cheese to the bottom. Each wheel weighed fifty pounds. As soon as teams stacked their wheels at the bottom of the hill, they were able to receive their next clue.

Bungee jump. The following morning, the priest at Church of Sant'Antonio gave teams the image of Verzasca Dam located in the city of Tenero-Contra. Teams made their way there to find a daunting Road Block task. For this task, one member of each team was required to strap into a harness and perform the world's second-highest bungee jump. Once that team member made it back to the top, they would be able to continue on. Jaime, Jen, Jodi, Kris, Luke, Michael, Mike, Preston, Steve, Victor, and Victoria completed this task before carrying on with the leg.

Milan. While six teams flew to Zurich, Switzerland, the other five flew to Milan, Italy. Once at their respective destinations, teams needed to take the train to their clue at Locarno. For some teams, this was a chance to get ahead on the Swiss rails. Upon arriving in Locarno, teams needed to locate the Church of Sant'Antonio where they could sign up for one of three departure times leaving the next morning. Everyone settled in for an overnight stay at a local hotel in the meantime.
Los Angeles. Teams arrived at the starting line of the race in military helicopters, and upon arriving at Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base, Phil Keoghan sent the eleven teams of two off on their race around the world for one million dollars. At his 'GO!' teams made their way to their first clues laying on their backpacks and were told to fly to Europe to make their way to Locarno, Switzerland. To do this, teams would need to hop into a marked car and get to Los Angeles International Airport where they would need to secure tickets on one of two possible flights to their next destinations.
Amanda and Kris. After the Road Block, teams were told to drive to the next Pit Stop: Krasnoyarsk Theater of Musical Comedy. Christie and Jodi, who made smart flight choices early on in the leg, were able to get a first place win. As a result they ended up winning themselves a motorcycle each. Amanda and Kris were unable to recover from their second Detour task after being (Blind) U-Turned and they became the fourth team to be eliminated leaving no dating or married couples in the race.

Chekhov. After visiting the Museum of the Last Bow, teams took taxis back to Krasnoyarsk to find the Bobrovy Log Park. Here, one member of each team needed to go to ride a bobsled roller coaster around a three mile track looking for seven different letters. If correct, that member needed to correctly spell the word 'Chekhov' using large tiles in order to proceed and receive their next clue. Kisha, Christie, Victor, Luke, Jaime, Mel, Michael and Kris completed this, and if they could not get all the letters they would need to ride again.
Margie and Luke. After the Detour, teams drove through Ovsyanka to reach the Museum of the Last Bow. Here, a revised game mechanic appeared for the first time in the race. This 'Blind U-Turn' allowed teams to U-Turn any possible team behind the users without requiring that they make themselves known. Margie and Luke ended up using this forcing Amanda and Kris to turn around and complete the 'Stack' Detour option costing them a lot of time.
Mark and Michael. Teams headed onward to the town of Ovsyanka to locate the Church of Saint Innokenty where they would find their Detour choice for this leg. Christie and Jodi, Kisha and Jen, Margie and Luke, Jaime and Cara, and Tammy and Victor ended up completing 'Stack' in which they needed to construct a wall of firewood of a certain height. If their firewood fell over they would need to reconstruct it until it was stable. Amanda and Kris, Mark and Michael, and Mel and Mike completed 'Construct' in which they needed to assemble and properly insert a shutter frame on a house before they could receive their next clue.
Brad and Victoria. After the Detour, teams were told to take a taxi to their next Pit Stop, Vila Panoramic in Bran. From here, as teams overlooked the infamous Bran Castle, they checked in on this third rest stop. Mel and Mike ended up arriving in first claiming a trip for two to Costa Rica. Although Tammy and Victor made crucial mistakes and exhibited sheer bad luck throughout the leg, it was Brad and Victoria who took a risk flying to Amsterdam trying to get an earlier flight and ended up arriving at the Pit Stop several hours after the other teams. They became the third eliminated team.
Mel and Mike. After the Road Block, teams were required to make their way to the next clue in the city of Brasov in Transylvania. To do this, all of the teams needed to take a train ride from the city of Bucharest over a hundred and fifty miles away. Upon arriving at Bisemca Niegra, teams found their Detour task. In 'Gypsy Move', teams needed to head to a nearby gypsy encampment, load a number of belongings onto a cart, and move them to another property using a horse-drawn trolley. Mel and Mike, Mark and Michael, Kisha and Jen and Amanda and Kris completed this task.
