Amazing Race 9
Colorado . This is the second time that "The Amazing Race" went to Brazil in the first leg of the race. The first time was in season 2.
Lake and Michelle. Lisa and Joni were eliminated in Brazil. In Germany, the game ended for Wanda and Desiree. David and Lori lost "The Amazing Race" in Italy.
Australia. Like Brazil, Australia was also a country the teams of "The Amazing Race 2" visited.
Fran and Barry. Fran and Barry arrived in first place at the Pit Stop in episode eight, but were eliminated in episode 9.
two . In episodes eight and ten, B.J. and Tyler were the last team to arrive at the Pit Stop. However, that did not stop them from winning the million dollar prize. Congratulations, Hippies!
David and Lori. Wanda and Desiree were eliminated in the second half of the leg.
B.J. and Tyler. B.J and Tyler crossed the finish line first, winning the one million dollar prize. Second place went to Eric and Jeremy and Ray and Yolanda received a third place finish. Joseph and Monica was the last team eliminated from "The Amazing Race 9". The other teams were John and Scott, Lisa and Joni, Wanda and Desiree, Danielle and Dani, David and Lori, Lake and Michelle and Fran and Barry.
Denver, Colorado. Eleven teams departed from the starting line at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, Colorado. When they opened their clues, they were instructed to fly to Sao Paolo, Brazil, where they would find their first clue on the rooftop of the Hotel Unique. To arrive in Sao Paolo, teams needed to race to the Denver Airport and book one of three flights. Three teams took the first flight, and four teams went onto the final two flights. The first flight arrived second due to delays, while the second arrived five minutes earlier.
Wanda and Desiree. Teams arrived at the Hotel Unique to find their first clue. Teams were then instructed to travel by taxi for three miles to find a clue on the Viaduto Santa Efigenia. Wanda and Desiree were the first to arrive at the Hotel due to the delayed first flight, and Lisa and Joni arrived last. Once at their next destination, they would have to search the street for their clue.
Two. When teams reached their clue on the Viaduto Santa Efigenia, they received the Detour for this leg of the race. Teams could choose between 'Motorhead' and 'Rotorhead'. In 'Motorhead', teams needed to take a taxi half a mile to a local motorbike shop and assemble a motorcycle. Once they finish this, someone must be able to kickstart the bike. Teams choosing the 'Rotorhead' task had to go to a local hangar and locate a location that their helicopter could fly them to for a clue. Ray and Yolanda and Lake and Michelle were the only teams to complete the 'Motorhead' Detour task.
No. After receiving their Detour clue, teams had to travel to the neighbourhood of Santa Cecilia and find a certain warehouse. Once they performed in a ceremony and lit a white candle for good fortune, they could receive their next clue. Their next clue told the teams to travel by taxi for two and a half miles to the Pit Stop.
John and Scott. After their final clue, teams needed to travel by taxi to Pit Stop at Estadio de Pacaembu, a local soccer stadium. The first team to arrive was Eric and Jeremy. Since they were the first team to arrive in the first leg of the race, they won $10,000 each. The final team to arrive, John and Scott, were the first team to be eliminated from "The Amazing Race".
8:00 am. Teams read their clue at Estadio de Pacaembu and found that they needed to head to Edificio Copan, only two and a half miles away to get their next clue. At Bloco F, teams found that they had to wait until 8:00 am before they could obtain their clues. By the time that the clue was available, all of the teams had arrived. The next clue gave teams the Road Block.
Three. In the Road Block, one team member from each team had to climb one of three large staircases to a station where they would need to rappel 400 feet. After this, teams would receive their clues. After this, teams needed to go to the bus station and find a time for a bus to Brotas, Brazil. There were three different buses to the location.
1:15. After the Road Block, teams raced to the bus station to secure a ride to Brotas, Brazil, where they would receive their next clue. Once there, teams would have to get their clue off the hood of a Volkswagen Beetle and use it to drive to their Detour.
Three teams got onto the 10:15 bus and the 11:15 bus, and four took the final bus.
Three. In 'Press It', teams needed to travel to a nearby plantation and participate in a process to change raw sugar cane into Ethanol. They had to flatten it, then distill it to make 500mL of Ethanol and pour into their car. In 'Climb it' teams needed to climb a waterfall by completing a 90-foot rope climb using mechanical ascenders.
Only Dave and Lori, Wanda and Desiree, and Lisa and Joni completed the 'Press It' task.
Lisa and Joni. After the Detour, teams needed to travel twenty miles to the Pit Stop at a local plantation, Primavera de Serra. BJ and Tyler were the first to arrive, and because of this, they won a trip to Tahiti. Although Fran and Barry's car battery died on the way to the race, Lisa and Joni were unable to pull ahead and they were eliminated.
7:00. Nine teams departed from the Pit Stop at a coffee plantation in Brotas, Brazil. They had to drive three miles to a nearby farm, then take a zipline across 300 feet of forest to receive their next clue. Once they arrived at the farm, they had to wait until 7:00am to start the task, so many teams caught up at this point. Their next clue told them to fly to Moscow, Russia. In order to do this, teams needed to take a one of three planned buses to Sao Paolo for a plane. Luckily, all teams got tickets on the same flight.
10m. Once in Moscow, teams needed to find Chaika Bassein, a pool used to train Olympic athletes. Once there, teams received their Road Block. Teams needed to put on a bathing suit and dive off the ten meter diving board. Then, they had to swim to the bottom of the pool to receive their clue.
Teams then needed to travel by taxi to Novodevichiy Monastery and find the Smolensk Cathedral to find their next clue; the Detour.
Eric and Jeremy. The 'Scour' task required that teams search 1,500 Russian Nesting Dolls for one of ten miniature clues at a local theater. Teams completing this task didn't need to worry about physical work, but they had to search hundreds of dolls.
Eric and Jeremy, Lake and Michelle, Ray and Yolanda, BJ and Tyler, and Fran and Barry participated in this task.
Four. Teams participating in the 'Scrub' Detour task had to find a trolley park and completely wash the interior and exterior of a Moscow trolley. When the owner of the trolley thought they'd done a good enough job, they'd receive their clue. Although the task was physically demanding, teams didn't need to spend time searching forever for their clue. Joseph and Monica, Danielle and Dani, Wanda and Desiree, and Lori and David completed this task.
Eric and Jeremy. After completing the Detour, teams received a clue telling them to go to Phil and the mat. Teams had to rush by taxi to Red Square and St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. The first team to arrive was Eric and Jeremy, but Phil informed them that the leg wasn't quite over, and he handed them their next clue.
Germany. When teams arrived at the third Pit Stop, Phil handed them their next clue telling them to go to Frankfurt, Germany. Once there, teams needed to take a train to the town of Stuttgart containing the world-famous Mercedes-Benz Factory. In order to get to Germany, teams needed to get to the airport and catch a flight. Earlier teams were able to catch a flight, but other teams were unable to do this because of computer problems. Eric and Jeremy, Lake and Michelle, and BJ and Tyler were able to catch a plane and train earlier than the other teams.
8:30. At the Mercedes-Benz factory, teams needed to take a test drive in on of the cars. During this, they had to ride on the Wall of Death, an extremely high banking wall on the track. After this, teams could receive their clue and their car for this leg of the race (the one they just tested). The next clue told teams to drive 200 miles to the town of Bad Tolz. Once there, teams needed to find Ellbach Field for their next clue.
Fran. In the Road Block, teams needed to search Ellbach Field for a Travelocity Roaming Gnome. After this, teams needed to travel to Bavaria Film where they would find their Detour. Teams also had to bring their Roaming Gnomes with them in order to possibly win a prize at the Pit Stop. On the way to the Road Block a few teams got lost searching for the highway, and it cost them some time.
Three. Once in Grünewald, teams needed to find Bavaria Film, an international movie studio. Teams needed to choose between ' and ' for their Detour task. In 'Break It', teams needed to break stunt bottles until they found one containing the word "Prost" (German for 'Cheers'. They could only break one bottle per cuckoo of a cuckoo clock. In 'Slap It', teams had to learn a tap dance. Once they figured out the rhythm, they could receive their clue. During both tasks, teams needed to wear lederhosen. Fran and Barry, Joseph and Monica, Ray and Yolanda, Dani and Danielle, and Wanda and Desiree all completed the 'Slap It' Detour task.
Wanda and Desiree. After the Detour, teams traveled ten miles to a monument in Munich called Siegestor on a street called Leopoldstraße. Once there, teams needed to reach the fourth Pit Stop of the race. In the end, Eric and Jeremy arrived in first place, and won a trip to Africa because of their Travelocity Roaming Gnome. In the end, Wanda and Desiree couldn't recover from getting lost on the highway, and they couldn't beat Dani and Danielle in a footrace, so they were eliminated from the race.
BJ and Tyler. In the beginning of Leg 5, teams were told to leave Germany and find their clue outside the Teatro Massimo opera house in Palmero, Italy (on the island of Sicily). Teams needed to take a flight from Munich to Rome, then another flight to Sicily. Using a computer, BJ and Tyler were able to book the earliest flight and they got ahead of the others. Lake and Michelle, who also attempted to do this, ended up falling back to the last flight. The clue at the Teatro Massimo told teams to take a marked car and drive to the town of Castellammare del Golfo.
yes. When teams arrived in Castellammare del Golfo, they found their Detour. In 'Foundry', teams needed to carry a 110-pound church bell into the back of a truck and drive it to a marked area. Then, they had to carry it up a bunch of stairs to a church to receive their clue. Joseph and Monica and Ray and Yolanda completed this task. In 'Laundry', teams needed to search 2,400 pieces of hanging laundry in a small Sicilian street to find one of sixteen marked pieces. Once they found this, they could receive their clue.
Lake and Michelle. After the Detour, teams needed to drive to an archaeological zone, then hike uphill one mile to the Teatro di Segesta. Once at the top, teams had the choice to use the first of two Yields in the race. Lake and Michelle managed to head to the Pit Stop before this and thought that they were in last place. When they saw Dani and Danielle following them, they used the Yield to prevent themselves from arriving last.
Two. In the Road Block at the Teatro di Segesta, teams needed to choose one member who could successfully build a Greek statue. When the statue was complete, they could have someone inspect it and claim their clue. Many teams did not realize that there were two left-over pieces that weren't needed to complete the puzzle and spent more time. Tyler, Eric, Monica, Fran, Lori, Lake, Ray, and Dani completed this task.
