Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first Road Block of this ninth "Amazing Race" was a doozy. Team members rappelled down the side of which of these in Brazil?

Answer: A skyscraper

In the second leg of the race, teams made their way from the first Pit Stop at Estádio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho in Sao Paolo to the building at Edifício Copan. Here, a Road Block task was performed in which one team member needed to make their way to the bottom of the building by rappelling four hundred feet. Before this, they needed to climb the stairs of the building to line up for their task. Jeremy, Joseph, BJ, Lake, Ray, Dave, Desiree, Fran, Joni, and Danielle completed this first Road Block task.

After the Road Block, teams needed to hitch a ride by bus to Brotas, Brazil for their next clues.
2. In the first half of Leg 3, teams needed to perform a ten meter dive outdoors in which country?

Answer: Russia

In Leg 3, teams made their way to the capital city of Russia, Moscow, where their Road Block clue could be found at the training center for Russian Olympic divers, Chaika Bassein. Here, one member of each team needed to don swimming gear and perform a ten meter jump from the high diving board of the pool.

After splashing into the water, that team member needed to reach the other end of the pool to claim their next clue telling them to head to Novodevichiy Monastery. Tyler, Barry, Yolanda, Lake, Eric, Monica, Lori, Dani, and Wanda finished this Road Block task.
3. The second half of Leg 3 brought teams to Germany. For the Road Block, team members needed to search under large gnomes, mascots of which sponsor of the race?

Answer: Travelocity

Known for product placement in many seasons of the race, Travelocity made its first non-prize appearance in the second half of Leg 3. In this leg, teams needed to find Ellbach Field in Bad Tölz, Germany for the Road Block. In this field, racers would find over a hundred large gnome hats and feet scattered around. Under eleven of these would be gnomes which players could pull from the ground and retrieve their clue. Teams needed to bring the Travelocity Roaming Gnome to the Pit Stop (intact) to win a prize. Eric and Jeremey were the first to do so and (go figure) they won a Travelocity trip to Africa.
4. In Leg 4 on the island of Sicily, team members constructed a statue for the Road Block. How many pieces would be left over if properly assembled?

Answer: Two

Teams arrived at Teatro di Segesta after completing their Detour task on the island of Sicily (in Italy) and found their Road Block task for this leg of the race. In this Road Block, one member of each team needed to construct a Greek statue using the provided pieces and no model in Segesta Ampitheatre. Once they fully constructed the statue, two parts would be left over and they would receive the clue instructing them to head to the Pit Stop, Tempio di Segesta. Tyler, Eric, Monica, Fran, Lori, Ray, Lake, and Dani completed this task. Lake and Michelle inevitably used the first Yield of the race right outside this task and Dani and Danielle were subsequently eliminated.
5. In Leg 6, teams completed a bungee jump in Greece. Who didn't perform the task?

Answer: Yolanda

Arriving in Corinth, Greece, teams completing the Road Block found the task at the Corinth Canal, a 240 foot fissure. Here, Ray, Tyler, Michelle, Monica, and Fran bungee jumped into the canal to claim their next clue on the race. Eric and Jeremy did not need to finish this Road Block task as they had already claimed the first of two Fast Forwards in the race earlier in the leg.

After the Road block, teams headed to an ancient stadium in the town of Nemea.
6. In Leg 7 in Oman, what did team members need to do to finish their Road Block task?

Answer: Dig

In Leg 7, teams drove through Oman to Al Hawiyah where their Road Block was found in the Shuwa area of an open plot of land. Here, one member of each team needed to dig in over one hundred sand dunes to find one of six containing a shuwa and an underground oven.

Inside this would be a a bag of lamb meat which, when received, would let them obtain their next clue directing them to the Pit Stop, Jabreen Castle in the city of Jabrin. Here, Barry, BJ, Monica, Eric, and Yolanda completed this difficult task.

The meal they obtained here would also be their dinner.
7. In Leg 8, teams found their way to Fremantle, Australia. Where was the Road Block held?

Answer: At a prison

In Leg 8, a variety of tasks were completed on Australia's western coast. After a number of tasks at Rottnest Island, teams headed to Fremantle Prison where one member needed to head into the building, find batteries and a flashlight in a specific ward, then descend into the catacombs beneath the structure.

Here, some of the passages would require rowing to access (in a small boat) while others could be walked through. Jeremy, Joseph, Tyler, Yolanda, and Fran completed this task before teams made their way to the Pit Stop, the south breakwater of Fremantle Sailing Club.
8. Which team was the only one not to compete in the Road Block task in Leg 10 (in Thailand)?

Answer: BJ and Tyler

In Leg 10, teams flew to Bangkok, Thailand and completed a Road Block task in the town of Lopburi (at Prang Sam Yot). Here, one team member needed to assemble a ceremonial meal for local monkeys based on a provided example. After approval by a local, they could present their offering to the monkeys to receive their next clue (not from the monkeys, however).

After the Road Block, the three teams participating needed to go to Ko Kret Island to finish a Detour. Eric, Joesph, and Yolanda made the feasts for this one while BJ and Tyler ate a feast of grasshoppers and crickets for their Fast Forward clue.
9. In Leg 11, how many amusement park rides did team members need to ride in Japan?

Answer: Three

Departing from the Capsule Land Hotel in Shibuya, teams made their way in the morning hours to Fujikyu Highland Amusement Park where they found an exhilarating Road Block task. Here, one member of each team needed to ride three major amusement park rides: the Pizza, Dodonpa, and Fujiyama.

While on these rides, team members needed to locate a man with a message (Lake Yamanaka) on the sides of one of the coasters. When they got this right, they received a clue leading them to the final Pit Stop, a swan boat floating on Lake Yamanaka. If they did not find they clue, they would need to ride all three coasters again. Tyler, Jeremy, and Yolanda finished this Road Block.
10. In the final leg of the race, Leg 12, teams completed the Road Block task in in Colorado.

Answer: True

In the final leg, teams made their way from Japan to Alaska and then onward to Colorado (where they began the race). Teams found the Road Block task, their final task of the race, at Red Rocks Park near the Amphitheater. Here, one member of each team needed to collect several of nearly three hundred flags from the nearby field and place them in the correct order in which they were visited from the race (excluding the United States).

The second member could give advice, but not physically help their participating mate. Once teams correctly did this, they could run to the Finish Line near the Red Rocks Amphitheater. BJ and Tyler went on to win the race with BJ performing the task. Eric and Yolanda also finished the Road Block and came in in second and third respectively (with teammates Jeremy and Ray).
