Amazing Race Australia
Ryot and Liberty. After the Road Block, teams were told to take their army vehicles to the second Pit Stop of the race, The Citadel in the Purple Forbidden City. Here, Tyler and Nathan arrived in first place winning tickets to the AFL Grand Final and a tour of the National Sports Museum (which, all in all, valued at over $5,000). Despite their being marked for elimination, Mo and Mos took their thirty minute penalty after arriving in fourth, and dropped to seventh place. In the end it was Ryot and Liberty, who fell behind after the Detour and Road Block, who arrived in eleventh place and became the first team eliminated from the race.
Seven. After the Detour, teams took their army vehicles to Khai Dinh Tomb in Hue for the Road Block task which asked teams 'who was in line for a king's ransom'. For this task, the selected members needed to go to the nearby Minh Mang Tomb (by army vehicle) while their partners waited behind, and locate seven large coins representing different emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty. Once they returned they were told that they would need to put them in order of their respective reigns. This forced many team members to go back and check their information. Nathan, Tom, Anastasia, Sam, Joey, Kelly, Mo, Luke, Ryot, Mel, and Anne-Marie completed this task.
Buffalo. After fixing their vehicles, teams needed to choose their Detour option: 'Carry Fowl' or 'Carabao'. In 'Carry Fowl', teams needed to go to the Bang Chicken Farm and pack twenty chickens into shoulder devices before carrying them to the local market to claim their next clue. This was completed by nine teams: Tyler and Nathan, Dave and Kelly, Matt and Tom, Mo and Mos, Sam and Renae, Richard and Joey, Ryot and Liberty, Mel and Alana, and Anne-Marie and Tracy (though many of them attempted 'Carabao'). In 'Carabao', teams needed to guide a buffalo known as a carabao through a muddy field in order to plow around and locate a race flag under the mud. Jeff and Luke and Chris and Anastasia completed this needle in a haystack task before continuing on.
Vietnam. At the start of Leg 2, teams were told to take a bus back to Denpasar and make their way to the airport to fly to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Many of the teams took completely different flights, arriving all throughout the day in Vietnam's largest city. Once they arrived, they needed to find the Saigon Opera House and search the surrounding streets and courtyards for different women in traditional dresses carrying fans. Racers needed to search through these hundreds of women for one holding a fan with their team name inside. When they handed this fan off to a woman outside the opera house, they got their next clue.
Sam and Renae. Once at Gili Trawangan, teams needed to head into the water to search for a briefcase containing a large amount of money. Then, bringing it to shore, teams needed to count out the amount inside and give their correct total to a judge to receive their next clue.
This clue told teams to head to the first Pit Stop, Sunset Point, via a cidomo. The first team to arrive was Sam and Renae who breeze through the Detour and stayed ahead long enough to win $10,000 and the Express Pass. In the end it was Mo and Mos who arrived in last place. Luckily, this was a non-elimination round and they were spared. They would be marked for elimination in the next leg and if they did not arrive in first place, they would receive a thirty-minute time penalty.
'Carry'. Reading their Detour clues, teams needed to take a taxi to Mandalika Market and choose either 'Carry' or 'Cash'. In 'Carry', teams needed to find a market stall and, balancing a basket of vegetables on their head, reach another stall elsewhere in the market. Sam and Renae, Matt and Tom, Dave and Kelly, Jeff and Luke, Chris and Anastasia, and Mel and Alana completed this task. In 'Cash', teams needed to use a marked Bakso stall to make a local dish and sell fifteen for a total of 5,000 Rupiah each. Richard and Joey, Nathan and Tyler, Mo and Mos, Anne-Marie and Tracy, and Ryot and Liberty finished 'Cash'.
Following the Detour, teams were told to head to Malimbu Beach by taxi then hop into a boat and travel to Gili Trawangan.
Indonesia. After the Road Block, teams were told to fly to Denpasar, an island in Indonesia, then to take a taxi to Lombok where they could sign up for one of three charter boats to their next destination, each leaving a half hour apart and beginning at 6:00am. In the morning, teams arrived at a fishing village and needed to search the area for their next clue (which was found in the netting of some shored boats.
Next, teams made their way by taxi to Pura Lingsar Temple where they needed to run through a gauntlet in which rice powder was thrown at them. This resulted in another clue.
Abseil. Opening their first clues, teams needed to select one member to complete the first Road Block task of the race. This task required that the particular member head to one of the many light towers surrounding the Melbourne Cricket Stadium, climb to the top, and abseil down to the bottom. The members who completed this task included Mos, Ryot, Richard, Mel, Tyler, Dave, Tracy, Renae, Jeff, Matt, and Chris. After this, teams needed to drive themselves to the airport and get themselves on a flight.
Melbourne. In the first leg of "The Amazing Race: Australia", eleven teams touched down in the Melbourne Cricket Ground, exited their individual helicopters, and met with Grant Bowler at the race's starting line. He informed the racers that they would be heading on a trip around the world for $250,000 and that many of them would be eliminated on the way. As soon as Grant gave the word, the teams were already on their way, racing to eleven clue boxes on the pitch and ripping open their first clue--a Road Block.
Richard and Joey. After the goat task, teams were told to drive themselves to the fourth Pit Stop of the race, Addo Elephant National Park near Port Elizabeth. In a very close race for the lead, it was Matt and Tom, by a hair, who arrived in first place claiming a $5,000 shopping spree from Kathmandu for their win. Richard and Joey, hampered by a car stuck in the mud, a U-Turn, and a stubborn goat, fell to last place (from a first place Fast Forward victory) and became the third team eliminated from the race.
Luke. Arriving at Bloukrans Bridge in Nature's Valley, teams faced off against the world's tallest bridge bungee jump during the Road Block. Once the selected member completed the two hundred sixteen meter plunge, they would be able to return to the bridge to receive their next clue. Nathan, Chris, Tom, Jeff, Dave, Sam, Richard, Mel, and Mos all took a dive.
After the Road Block, teams needed to drive to the village of Nomathamsanqa where they would need to collect a penned goat and bring it to a witch doctor (known as a sangoma) across the village for their next clue.
Richard and Joey. After completing the Detour, teams received a Road block clue instructing them to drive to their next destination in Nature's Valley where they would need to take a number for the Road Block task.
On the way out of Kragga Kamma Game Park, Tyler and Nathan utilized the race's first and only U-Turn to force Richard and Joey go return to the Detour and complete the option they had not originally chosen (in their case, 'Smash'). When they finished this they were able to resume the rest of the leg.
Giraffes. At the Valley of Desolation, teams received a Detour clue instructing to go to Kragga Kamma Game Park, back towards Port Elizabeth, for Detour. Because the park was closed, all teams entered at 7:00am and chose either 'Smash' or 'Bash'. In 'Smash', teams needed to throw a traditional club called a knobkierie to break four hanging pots across a pitch. Tyler and Nathan, David and Kelly, and Matt and Tom all finished this. In 'Bash', teams needed to use wood and tools to build a giraffe feeder to the park rangers' satisfaction. Chris and Anastasia, Alana and Mel, Mo and Mos, Jeff and Luke, Sam and Renae, and Richard and Joey completed this task.
Port Elizabeth. In the beginning of Leg 4, teams were instructed to depart from the Ruins of St. Paul's near the previous Pit Stop at A Ma Cultural Village in Macau, China and take a taxi to the airport. Once there, they needed to fly to the city of Johannesburg, South Africa, then take a domestic flight to the city of port Elizabeth where their next clues would be waiting for them in a marked car in the airport parking lot. This let them know they would need to drive three hundred miles northward to the Valley of Desolation where their cluebox would be atop a sheer cliff face.
Anne-Marie and Tracy. After the Road Block, teams were told to make their way through the doors to the next Pit Stop inside the A Ma Cultural Village. Here, Richard and Joey, who claimed the Fast Forward reward, arrived in first and received a $10,000 prize from NAB Platinum for use after the race.
In the end, Mo and Mos and Anne-Marie and Tracy both opted to take a four hour penalty because they decided to default on the Road Block. Mo and Mos, who arrived in ninth place, were spared from elimination but would need to commence Leg 4 approximately three hours and fifty minutes later than they normally would have (the penalty for defaulting on the Road Block is four hours). Anne-Marie and Tracy became the second team eliminated from the race.
During the Road Block in Leg 3 involving the Chinese Zodiac, teams were told (via their clues) not to move which animal's position? | "The Amazing Race Australia" 1.2

Sheep. Once teams took their taxis to A Ma Village, they found their Road Block clues waiting outside. This asked one member of each team to 'crack the animal code' and presented them with a puzzling series of clues. Using these, teams needed to properly order twelve Chinese lanterns, each with a picture of an animal of the Chinese Zodiac printed on the side. When these were in the correct order, they could head through the doors to the next Pit Stop. Mel, Tyler, Sam, Tom, Kelly, Luke, Chris, Anne-Marie, and Mos completed this one. Sam and Renae panicked during this task, opting to use their Express Pass to advance without finishing the Road Block.
Baccarat. After the Detour, teams were told to make their way to another ferry station to travel to the island of Macau, China. Once there, they needed to taxi to the Venetian Macau where they would be led to a dressing room. When they had garbed themselves in formalwear, they would be able to head to the baccarat tables where they would need to face off for their next destination. Every hand won would allow them to receive a lettered mahjong tile. Once enough were collected, they would be told to go A MA VILLAGE, their next location.
Lion. After the fortune cookie task at the Jumbo Floating Restaurant, teams needed to return to the mainland and take a taxi to the Walled City Park and complete the Detour. This allowed for a choice between 'Lion Dance' and 'Kung Fu Stance'. In 'Lion Dance', teams needed to dress up in a two-person ceremonial lion outfit and properly complete the moves involved in the dance. Alana and Mel, Chris and Anastasia, Anne-Marie and Tracy, Mo and Mos completed this one. In 'Kung Fu Stance', teams needed to complete a series of precise moves to the satisfaction of a kung fu master and the break six clay tiles to receive their next clue. Tyler and Nathan, Jeff and Luke, Dave and Kelly, Sam and Renae, Matt and Tom finished this.
Richard and Joey. In the beginning of Leg 3, teams departed from the second Pit Stop in the Forbidden Purple City of Hue, Vietnam, and flew hundreds of miles to the island of Hong Kong in China. Here, teams needed to connect via taxi to Aberdeen Ferry Harbour and ride to the Jumbo Floating Restaurant. The task therein involved eating through over a thousand fortune cookies for one containing a message about their next clue.
Upon reading this, teams would receive a Fast Forward opportunity taking them to Tin Hau Temple. Here, both members needed to shave their heads as part of Buddhist tradition to receive their next clue. Richard and Joey did this and headed directly to the Pit Stop.
'Stair'. In Singapore, teams completed their final Detour task at the Arena Bay Sands Hotel. In 'Dare', teams tested their tolerance for heights by walking a tightrope between two towers 200m above the ground. Once both members made the walk there and back, they received their clue. In 'Stair' teams climbed up and down 56 floors in tower 1 and then tower 2 to receive the same clue. Sam and Renae and Nathan and Tyler took the 'Dare' task while Jeff and Luke completed 'Stair'. Teams then continued through Singapore before returning to Australia.
A fish market. Arriving at St. John's Fish Market in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka, teams got to choose between 'Count' and 'Carry'. None of the teams completed 'Count', a straightforward fish-counting task. Instead, Matt and Tom, Nathan and Tyler, Sam and Renae, and Jeff and Luke all opted to complete 'Carry' in which they each moved fifteen large blocks made of ice from a loading port to a marked stall somewhere in the market. When they were all transported unbroken to the specific stall they could take their next clue and catch a train to the town of Galle.
Israel. In Leg 8, teams completed the Detour on Jerusalem Beach in Tel Aviv. Sam and Renae completed 'Find Unseen', which involved searching the sands with a metal detector (for a key) to unlock a chest. The remaining four teams completed 'Make 13' which involved playing a game of matkot, a ball and paddle game, and volleying the ball back and forth thirteen times to receive their clue.
In Leg 9, teams visited Jerusalem for their Detour. Sam and Renae completed 'Holy Grail' which involved an archaeological dig and delivery in the ruins of the City of David. The remaining three teams completed 'Pilgrim's Trail' which forced them to carry a heavy wooden cross through the streets of Jerusalem to visit the Stations of the Cross.
Two. In Leg 7, teams traveled through the Czech Republic (in the Prague regions) and had to complete a Detour consisting of 'Stack Up' and 'Stack In'. In 'Stack Up', teams needed to stack boxes of pilsner taken off an assembly line on two pallets. In 'Stack In', teams needed to eat a combined total of eighteen local Czech sausages. All of the teams finished 'Stack Up'. Both tasks were held at a Czech brewery.
In the second half of the leg in Poland, teams chose either 'Herd' or 'Hoe Down'. In 'Herd', teams needed to herd three particular sheep into a small, self-built pen. In 'Hoe Down', teams needed to dress up and learn a local axe dance. All of the teams chose to complete the same task again: 'Herd'.
Delivery. In Leg 6, teams progressed from Cape Town to Amsterdam to Prague where they located a Detour clue on Charles Bridge. This required that teams either choose 'Chivalry' or 'Delivery'. In 'Chivalry' (completed by Dave and Kelly and Matt and Tom) teams dressed up as knights and searched Old Town Square for a man with a key and then delivered the key to a damsel on a hotel balcony. In 'Delivery', teams needed to carry a princess several kilometers in a royal sedan chair to the Old Town Square. The remaining five teams completed this one before receiving the Road Block clue.
Nathan and Tyler. In Leg 4, teams completed a Detour at Kragga Kamma Game Park choosing either 'Smash' or 'Bash'. In 'Smash', teams threw a club known as a knobkierie to break four far-away jars. Breaking all four would result in a clue, and it did for Tyler and Nathan, David and Kelly, and Matt and Tom. In 'Bash', Chris and Anastasia, Alana and Mel, Mo and Mos, Jeff and Luke, Sam and Renae, and Richard and Joey used tools to build giraffe feeders. After the Detour, teams had the option of using the U-Turn. Nathan and Tyler did this very thing, forcing Richard and Joey to return to the Detour to complete the 'Smash' task.
Richard and Joey. In Leg 3, Richard and Joey finished the Fast Forward task in Hong Kong allowing them to skip all tasks and proceed to the Pit Stop. As such they never attempted the Detour, a choice between 'Lion Dance' and 'Kung Fu Stance'. In 'Lion Dance', teams donned a two-person lion costume, learned moves of a traditional dance, and performed it properly for a spectator to earn their clue. In 'Kung Fu Stance', teams needed to learn an intricate kung fu routine, then break six clay tiles to receive their clue. Alana and Mel, Chris and Anastasia, Anne-Marie and Tracy, Mo and Mos finished 'Lion Dance' while Tyler and Nathan, Jeff and Luke, Dave and Kelly, Sam and Renae, Matt and Tom completed 'Kung Fu Stance'.
Fowl. In Hue, Vietnam, teams chose between 'Carry Fowl' and 'Carabao'. In the former task, teams traveled to Bang Chicken Farm (cute name) and used carrying devices to transport a total of twenty chickens from the farm to a local marketplace. In the latter task, teams used a plow and a buffalo known as a carabao to search a large, muddy field for a race flag buried somewhere in the mud. Many teams opted to avoid this task after futile attempts at finding a needle in a dirty haystack, but Jeff and Luke and Chris and Anastasia finished it. Everyone else carried the fowl before heading along to a Road Block at Khai Dinh Tomb.
Food. In Leg 1, teams completed their Detour task in Lombok, Indonesia. This Detour, which occurred in a local marketplace, forced teams to choose either 'Cash' or 'Carry'. In 'Cash', teams needed to use a marked car to sell fifteen bowls of Bakso for 5,000 Rupiah apiece. Richard and Joey, Nathan and Tyler, Mo and Mos, Anne-Marie and Tracy, and Ryot and Liberty completed 'Cash'. In 'Carry', teams needed to balance a container of greens on their head and walk through the marketplace to receive their clue. If any member of the team dropped their container, both would need to restart. Sam and Renae, Matt and Tom, Dave and Kelly, Jeff and Luke, Chris and Anastasia, and Mel and Alana did this task. All of the teams then made their way to Malimbu Beach to catch a boat ride.
Four. In this penultimate leg of the race, only four teams remained. Renae, Tyler, Matt, and Jeff all completed this task at the Trendy Connection Clothing Factory outside Colombo, Sri Lanka in which they were required to use provided fabric to sew together a shirt using sewing machines. Failure to properly sew the shirt would result in their restarting the task with a new bundle of cut fabric. After they presented their shirt and got it approved, they could continue to the Pit Stop at Independence Square in Colombo.
Sam. For this Road Block task, teams visited the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in Qumran. Here, one member of each time needed to use a letter key to read a Hebrew message. Part of the key to this task involved knowing that Hebrew is read from right to left. Once teams properly deciphered the message they could head onward to the main post office in the city of Jerusalem. Tom, Nathan, Jeff, and Sam all completed this task.
$50. For the Road Block in Leg 6, teams headed to a medieval fair in Prague where one member of each needed to use a bow and arrow to hit a target (twice) with no more than forty arrows. If they hit the bullseye, they would receive $50 for use during the race. If they ran out of arrows, another team member would need to give theirs to them or they would need to take a four hour penalty. While Nathan, Chris, Dave, Matt, Luke, Alana, and Renae ended up stepping up to complete this one, only three of them won the $50 prize: Chris, Dave, and Luke.
