John Edwards. While on the show months before, Edwards promised to announce his candidacy on the show in response to a joke from Jon. Much to Jon's surprise, Edwards really did come back to do just that! Jon: "You may have to do that again, on some other show, because...uh, I don't think it counts here." That was followed by Stephen Colbert's analysis of the announcement as a "campaign killer". =)
