How I Met Your Mother
2030. Each episode opens in the future with a father explaining to his teenage children how he met their mother. The show then flashes back to the present.
2 - a boy and a girl. The two attractive teenagers are visibly bored with their long-winded father's story. After flashing back to the present, the episodes end back in the future with some final comments by the father and his children.
Bob Saget. Bob Saget's contribution to the series as the voice of the "future Ted", while uncredited, is very recognizable.
Ted and Marshall. Newcomer actors Josh Rader and Jason Segal play Ted and Marshall, who are forced to cope with life and their friendship when Marshall becomes engaged to be married.
Kindergarten teacher. Lily is portrayed by actress Alyson Hannigan, who played roles in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and the "American Pie" films.
Barney. Former child star Neil Patrick Harris of "Doogie Howser, M.D." fame portrays the character Barney, who is always giving Ted dating advice.
Robin. Former model Cobie Smulders plays Ted's love interest Robin. But she will not be the mother of Ted's children. After hearing their dad's story about Robin, his kids asked if that was how he met their mother. Ted answered, "No. That was how I met your Aunt Robin".
Law student. Marshall tries very hard to juggle his time between his studies, his finance and his best friend Ted, usually with hilarious results.
BaskIceball. Lily found the boys playing hockey with a basketball and tennis rackets. She suggested that it would be better named "Iceketball". This was in "Belly Full of Turkey".
Suit up!. In the first episode, Barney calls Ted and tells him to meet him at the bar and to "Suit up!" and of course Ted didn't. The one time Ted did 'suit up' he was only wearing a blazer.
Pirate. Barney always brings extra costumes to a party just in case he strikes out with the hottest girl there. That way he has a second chance to make a first impression. He ended up getting the hot girl's phone number with the penguin costume.
3. Ted was afraid of coming on too strong with Robin after he told her he loved her on their first date so he decided to throw a party and invite her as just another guest. Robin couldn't make the first two parties so Ted threw one more on a Sunday night and she finally made it.
Public urination. Lily needed to check if she was pregnant and the store where she bought the pregnancy test didn't have a bathroom so she peed on the stick outside the store. After her arrest, Marshall came to bail her out from jail.
Battleship. Robin cheats by bending the ship pieces and Barney cheats by stacking the ships on top of one another.
Paralegal. In the episode 'Mary the Paralegal,' Ted needed a date to make Robin jealous and Barney convinced Ted that Mary, his neighbor, was the perfect date...but also a prostitute. Ted ended up agreeing to take Mary and, eventually, this led to an embarrassing situation when he and Mary got a hotel room together.
Moby. Ted and the gang invited 'fake Moby' into their limo thinking he was the real deal and went to 'fake Moby's' party which also happened to be party where Lily was waiting for the gang to show up.
She sat on a cake. After finally finding the perfect wedding dress but discovering that it was way out of her price range, Lily was so disappointed that she didn't notice she was sitting on a raspberry and chocolate cake. Lily ended up buying the dress because it was ruined beyond repair and Marshall had to take a job at Barney's corporate firm to help pay back the bill.
He did a rain dance. In a desperate last ditch attempt to win Robyn's heart after his previous gesture of having a blue string quartet play in her apartment failed, he asked Barney's friend to teach him how to perform a rain dance to prevent Robin from going on her camping trip. Ted's wishes all came true when his dance caused a torrential downpour and Robin decided she wanted to give their romance another shot.
New York. The characters were often seen out and about in NYC.
"Suit Up". Barney almost always wore a suit and loved to tell other people to do the same.
Journalist. We often saw Robin on the TV, once saying some messed up things that Barney dared her to say.
Lily. Lily and Marshall were together for 9 years. They broke up and Lily moved away at the end of season one.
'93. Ted said he had been vomit free since '93.
dog. Robin had several dogs that lived in her apartment with her.

Trudy. Trudy left through the fire escape, leaving Ted alone in bed with a pineapple.
She applied to art school without telling him. Lily applied to art school in San Francisco just to see if she could get in. Marshall found the message on the answering machine telling her she got in and got very upset about it, which caused Lily to get very upset and leave.
Brown. She dyed her hair brown while she was in San Fransisco because she needed a change. She also admits that the art school told her she was no good at painting and she was upset.
