Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Project Runway
Jay. Jay MaCarroll's funky knit-wear line was crowned the winner.
Vanessa. Vanessa walked out of the reunion special, spilling her wine and saying she didn't want to be there.
When the designers were asked to design a Grammy dress in "the Grammy challenge", which T.V. personality were they asked to design for? | "Project Runway" Season One
|
Nancy O'Dell. "Access Hollywood" host Nancy O'Dell chose Wendy Pepper's gold and feather dress.
During "the Swimsuit challenge" which designer admitted to being influenced by another designer and was eliminated? | "Project Runway" Season One
|
Alexandra. Alexandra made the error of drawing inspiration from Missoni's designs.
Robert. Robert tried to do gymnastics on a scaffolding and injured himself.
Which model was unsatisfied with her dress, because it was itchy, during "the Wedding Dress challenge" and almost didn't do the runway show? | "Project Runway" Season One
|
Olga. Kevin didn't have time to put a lining in the dress.
Nora. The judges felt there wasn't enough of Nora in the dress.
Wendy and Vanessa. Vanessa was eliminated for saying she was the "worst sewer".
Envy. Kara Saun won the challenge with her military inspired dress.
Daniel Franco. Daniel Franco was allowed to return to the show's second season.
Wedding dresses. Nora's model, who was only sixteen at the time, demanded roses and a poofy dress - Nora couldn't bring enough of her own style to the project, and was eliminated. Several of the models brought their boyfriends by to see the dresses - can you say HINT?
Admitted she couldn't sew. Everyone was asked to name the least valuable member of their teams. Vanessa voted for herself since she said she couldn't sew - the judges took the easy out and gave Vanessa her walking papers.
The fourth project was a team challenge - design a garment for rocker Sarah Hudson (relative of Kate). Which designer had a meltdown during the execution of this challenge? | "Project Runway" - Season 1 (2005) Part 1
|
Nora. Already on the edge after working under Kevin's lackluster leadership, Nora reached the breaking point after a pattern piece went missing. She accused everyone of stealing it before it was eventually found, merely misplaced. PS: Has anyone ever heard from that "rocker" Ms. Hudson since this show?
Auf Wiedersehen. Hard to spell, so easy to say - each designer receives Heidi's German goodbye and a kiss on each cheek just before they take the walk of shame.
Gave her a makeover. This makeover gave Wendy the confidence to triumph in the Banana Republic challenge. As we saw later in the season, Kara had reason to regret her kindness!
The winner of the Banana Republic challenge earned the right to have their garment produced and sold to the public. Though not the winner, Jay's dress was amazing. What building inspired his creation? | "Project Runway" - Season 1 (2005) Part 1
|
The Chrysler Building. His dress was a marvel of craftsmanship and sheer beauty; unfortunately, it was seen as too complex for mass production. Wendy Pepper won instead with a (what many said) bland, staid dress with a capelet.
Envy. This challenge resulted in a wide range of results - from Starr having to explain a "tumor" on her dress (?) to Jay's "Come to Jesus" submission. Vanessa actually designed a maternity dress, which went over far better than anyone expected it to.
Heidi Klum. Tyra Banks IS the host of a model-related fashion show - "America's Next Top Model." Liz Hurley actually hosts the British version of "Project Runway", which is called "Project Catwalk".
Stereotype. "Stereotype" was the name of Jay McCarroll's winning collection, in which each model wore color-coordinated headphones with her outfit. The collection was inspired by the way different music fans express themselves through clothing.
Shoes. Kara Saun had used her connections to get expensive designer shoes donated to her, while the other two had to make do with Goodwill finds. They cried foul, and Kara Saun almost had to send barefoot models down the runway!
Austin Scarlett. Though it was not promoted or revealed on "Project Runway", Austin's collection *did* show at Bryant Park after all, as a necessary decoy for the sly fans who tried to investigate the winners through coverage of fashion week itself!
Mood. Seeing the footage of the supply excursions makes me wonder how anyone finds ANYTHING in that store - luckily, it looked like each contestant was given their own sales assistant during the whirlwind shopping sprees.
Not only did she triumph in the Banana Republic challenge, Wendy really grabbed another big win when she designed a red carpet look for a celebrity client. Who is this famous woman? | "Project Runway" - Season 1 (2005) Part 2
|
Nancy O'Dell. Nancy O'Dell, host of the "Access Hollywood" show, was to wear the winning design to the Grammy awards. She did end up wearing the outfit, but it had been SIGNIFICANTLY modified - quite a disappointment.
His model was a no-show. Jay's model, Julia, called to say that she wouldn't be coming in time for the runway show (she was not irresponsible, just booked at another job that went over time). Austin agreed to fill in as Jay's model at the last minute, which was very nice of him considering the close competition at this point.
The designers went on a field trip for project number eight. In order to better understand the needs of their client, the designers were asked to work there for a day. What job did they do? | "Project Runway" - Season 1 (2005) Part 2
|
Delivered mail. They were asked to create a new, updated uniform for the US Postal Service. Kara did a great job and won, hands-down, for her practical yet attractive submission.
Michael Kors. He is famous for designing uncomplicated women's sportswear, and has had his eponymous label since 1981. Kors' comments at the runway interrogations were often quite harsh and unsparing of the designers' feelings.
The seventh episode was another team effort. Working from the theme "The Year 2055", the designers were to create a unified collection, with each designer contributing one garment. What material were they asked to use? | "Project Runway" - Season 1 (2005) Part 2
|
Vintage clothes. "Deconstructionism" was the technique - since the designers were working in a neutral palette, the vintage clothes were chosen primarily for texture. There were supposed to be muslin "pods" which were to be worn as overcoats, tying each garment to the theme. With time at a premium, this element was eliminated - causing the judges to question the unity of the collection.
Showed up intoxicated. She actually wore Kevin's swimsuit out to a club after the "Elle" magazine party - but BEFORE the runway interrogation! She ripped some seams and could well have ruined things for Kevin. She was saved from elimination many times because the designers believed she was a great walker on the runway.
Challenge six also required the designers to test their strength at another facet of the fashion industry. What additional challenge was given to the designers after the garments had been produced? | "Project Runway" - Season 2 (2006) - Part 1
|
Visual Merchandising. The Banana Republic customers were asked to vote that day for the best window display. Emmett was amazing, sketching the day-to-evening theme in paint in under sixty minutes. Nick and Santino completely failed this part of the challenge, simply writing "Banana Republic Art Gallery" on brown paper (embarassing to watch).
Day into evening. There was an additional incentive - the winning garment was to be put into production and sold at Banana Republic stores. Andrae and Daniel took this one with their drop-waisted dress under a small cropped jacket.
The designers were given a photo of the socialite in challenge 5 to assist them in their endeavors. Marla's gown was almost a complete knockoff of the dress in the photo. What famous designer was the socialite wearing? | "Project Runway" - Season 2 (2006) - Part 1
|
Chloe. Tim Gunn repeatedly tried to save Marla from making this kind of mistake, but she insisted on going forward with her plans. Even Nicky Hilton commented that Marla's dress looked just like a Chloe dress she had just worn recently to an event! Luckily for Marla, the judges found Guadeloupe's dress too hideous to ignore, and SHE got the boot instead.
