Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
The Black Adder
Phillip Fox & Philip Fox. I haven't actually seen the pilot episode but apparently he was terrible, thank God for Tony Robinson.
When Prince Harry is compiling the battle averages in 'The Foretelling', Edmund claims to have killed Warwick the Wild...but where is Warwick from? | 'The Black Adder'
|
Leicester. It transpires that Edmund didn't, of course, kill anybody... The battle-dodging nappy-wearing coward!
Edmund unwittingly nurses the defeated Henry Tudor back to health and later in history he becomes King, but which King Henry was he to become? | 'The Black Adder'
|
When Edmund is given the position of Archbishop, Lord Percy is made into a Bishop in order to accompany him. Where is Lord Percy the Bishop of? | 'The Black Adder'
|
In 'The Queen of Spain's Beard', what kind of animal attacks Edmund when he falls of the battlements at the very start of the episode? | 'The Black Adder'
|
When The Queen and The Infanta (along with her dozy interpreter) are discussing what Edmund is like in bed, to what animal does The Queen compare him? | 'The Black Adder'
|
In 'Witchsmeller Persuivant' we learn the name of Edmund's horse. It is...? | 'The Black Adder'
|
And finally... According to the song at the end of 'Head', the second episode of Blackadder II, for how long was Edmund King before he died at the end of the first series? | 'The Black Adder'
|
half a minute. The song starts as follows... His Great Grandfather was the King, although for only thirty seconds...
drains. Seems that Prince Harry was supposed to be quite clever- listen carefully and you'll hear him say it in French, German and Spanish as well as English.
Jim Broadbent. Remember the introduction scene between Edmund and the Infanta? Not realising they were talking to the Infanta's interpreter, Edmund, Percy et al mistook him for Jeremy of Estonia...
Opals. This was according to Harry, who, as well as being engaged to a list of women (literally) as long as his arm, neglected to mention that Leia was only a child. No exaggerations either.
The Earl of Doncaster. This never-seen character was also mentioned at Edmund's attempted wedding to Mrs Applebottom. Her husband chased him away, saying that it can't have been the Duke of Edinburgh - "Nah, that's the Earl of Doncaster!"
6. He was talking to his new wife, Leia, who asked if it was time for bed - "Ah yes dear, it must be at least six o clock!". Listen until the end of the credits and you'll hear her ask for a glass of water, which for some reason irritates Edmund enormously.
Duchess of Gloucester. Baldrick had been told this by "Jane Smart, the one who told me about the Duchess of Kent and the chocolate chastity belt".
Tavis Mortimer. Mortimer had killed Archbishop Godfrey with a "Turkish helmet with a 2ft spike on top".
France. They had to go to Canterbury instead, after Prince Harry and the King spotted them as they were about to leave.
Bishop of Ramsgate. As usual, Percy and Baldrick ended up alongside Edmund. Baldrick was only a monk.
Sara. She was the one whose feeble beating of Edmund was meant to be a punishment.
Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson. The first and third series were written by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson. The second and fourth by Ben Elton and Richard Curits. Adrian Edmondson and Rik Mayall are known for, amongst other things, "The Young Ones" and "Bottom".
Edmund, Duke of Edinburgh. A different tale from what we are used to hearing. In this story it is Edmund who kills the King (Richard the Third) and Henry Tudor is defeated, instead of the other way around. Richard, Duke of York (who history says died in the Tower) becomes King Richard the Fourth.
Lear . Just another little bit of detail from our talented scriptwriters. there are several references to the Bard's work throughout this series and the other three as well.
He was struck by a falling Gargoyle whilst swimming off Beachy Head.. Arhbishop Godfrey was killed by someone wearing a Turkish helmet, Archbishop Wilfred by falling onto the spire and the other I made up. Everyone knows that quiche was far more in fashion at the time.
a cat that drinks blood, a horse that talks, and a man who propagates with poodles.. I really enjoyed this whole series but "Witchsmeller Pursuivant" especially. These proofs are devices which the Witchsmeller uses to convict "witches". Very funny.
Clever Jake. They don't call him Clever Pete at all. They certainly don't call him Clever Tom and Clever Harry is a name I made up.
Because only one of the couple has to be a virgin, and that's Edmund.. Edmund had worked out an elaborate way for the Infanta to lose her virginity so he wouldn't have to marry her. Poor Edmund. He didn't realise (ooh, I haven't used that word for a long time) that everyone knew she wasn't a virgin.
Three . Just one member of the very evil Black Seal. There are seven of them. The Seven Most Evil Men in the Kingdom. Three-Fingered Pete, Sir Wilfred Death, Guy de Glastonbury, Sean the Irish Bastard, Friar Bellows, Jack Large and the Black Adder.
two . Mr Rat and Mr Key (he made him with his own teeth!). This comes from what I think is one of the funniest sequences on television. I just love Rik Mayall as Mad Gerald.
Spain. He decides to make friends with Spain because they are the nation most threatening to France.
eight . They are: Princess Leia of Hungary, Grand Dutchess Urlsula of Brandenburg, Queen Beowulfa of Iceland, Countess Caroline of Luxembourg, Bertha of Flanders, Bertha of Brussels, Jeremy of Estonia and Bertha of Saxe Couburg.
love bites. It turns out to be dog bites because a lady pushed Edmund over a wall because he was so hideously ugly.
No. Baldrick asks if dogs can and he gets told to shut up.
