Young Blades
D'Artagnan. Louis commanded both men to lower their swords. Only one man obeyed; Louis knew that a real Musketeer would always obey his king. Then the real D'Artagnan appeared, confirming the idenity of the imposter.
The Musketeers devised a trap to lure the real thief out of hiding so that he could be arrested and Captain Duval spared. What did they use as bait? | "Young Blades": "The Chameleon"
|
The book. The Musketeers used the ancient book as bait to catch the real thief. They convinced Louis to go along with their plan by allowing him to be a part of the stake out. Louis, however, was bored by the proceeding.
The Musketeers believed that the man in the cell was not actually Captain Duval, but the imposter. To be sure, they asked this individual what they had given Duval for his last birthday. What was his correct answer? | "Young Blades": "The Chameleon"
|
Nothing. When the man in the cell claimed to be Duval, D'Artagnan tried to prove him an imposter by asking him what they had given him for his last birthday. Duval told them that they had given him nothing, and called them a bunch of "thoughtless, shiftless recruits". This convinced the Musketeers that he was, indeed, the real Captain Duval.
He confessed to the attempted theft himself.. Captain Duval had come to believe that the man he saw in the treasure room was not actually Pierre, but the "Master" in the guise of Pierre. He could not let an innocent man be killed because of this mistake, but Louis wouldn't believe any of his arguments for Pierre's innocence. Therefore, Duval confessed to the crime himself to spare Pierre's life.
Elise. He appeared in the guise of Elise, who was allowed into Pierre's cell to visit her husband the day before his execution. Once inside, the "Master" changed back into his own form. He told Pierre that he was the "Master of Justice". Because Pierre had ordered many executions in India, justice was served by Pierre's own execution.
He used to be engaged to her.. Captain Duval and Elise had been engaged when Duval was the brightest star in Musketeer training. He had a great future in front of him until he was injured. When it became apparent that he would not be able to achieve his former potential and provide for Elise in a fitting manner, he broke the engagement so she could marry someone else. The two remained friends.
Pierre presented Prince Louis with, among other things, a book he had acquired in India. While reading the book, Louis discovered instructions for doing something and tried to do it himself. What was it? | "Young Blades": "The Chameleon"
|
Transform himself into the form of another person. Pierre had found the book hidden in a stone vault while serving in India. Elise explained that it contained ancient Indian fables.
Why did Captain Duval believe that Pierre was the person who tried to steal the treasure from the apparently unguarded room? | "Young Blades": "The Chameleon"
|
He entered the room and saw a man who looked like Pierre.. Captain Duval was monitoring the room holding the treasure using a surveillance device invented by Siroc. He then entered the room and caught Pierre in the act.
Ramon. Ramon, who was accompanying Siroc and one of the decoy wagons, heard what sounded like trouble at the crossroads. He quickly rode in that direction to aid in the defense of the wagon. Siroc remained with the decoy wagon. D'Artagnan and Jacques also assisted Captain Duval, but they were already there, as they were the guard detail assigned to that wagon.
Their wagon of empty boxes was a decoy for the real cargo. Siroc explained to Ramon that six teams of Musketeers were guiding wagons from Le Havre to the palace. Five of them were decoys, as the sixth wagon was transporting a valuable cargo.
He was pardoned by the Crown.. D'Artagnan petitioned Queen Anne to pardon the highwayman so that he could raise his son. She agreed, and Prince Louis read the proclamation immediately before the execution was to take place.
The baby was his son.. The highwayman told D'Artagnan that he knew D'Artagnan was a brave and noble man. He left his son in the basket at the musketeer garrison with a note asking D'Artagnan to raise him because the mother had abandoned the child, and the highwayman could not care for the baby properly while pursuing a life of crime.
Prince Louis. While waiting for the highwayman, Queen Anne heard a commotion in the hallway. When she went to investigate, she found Price Louis in costume, pretending to be the highwayman and trying to kiss Isabel.
Jacqueline. D'Artagnan asked Jacqueline to go away with him and the baby. He asked if she was worried that pretending to be a man all the time might result in her forgetting how to be a woman. Jacqueline replied that she wasn't worried, that she wouldn't go with him, and that her destiny was to fight for France.
The lady "victims" knocked Ramon down so the highwayman could escape.. When Ramon tried to arrest the highwayman, one of the ladies jumped out of the coach, knocking Ramon to the ground. Then the other lady joined her, and they kept him pinned until the highwayman escaped.
Whose infant is this? What's it doing here?. When Duval discovered the baby, he insisted that it be taken to the orphanage. He added, "A baby in the garrison! It's unthinkable! What's next, a woman musketeer?" When all the Musketeers offered to help with the baby until his mother could be found, Duval relented and said the baby could stay temporarily.
D'Artagnan coughed every time the baby cried.. Although Duval found their behavior odd, he was too distracted by his worries about the highwayman operating in Paris to discover what the foursome were hiding.
Ramon. While hurrying down a hallway at the Musketeer garrison, Ramon nearly tripped over the Moses basket containing the baby. He took the basket to the table where the other three Musketeers were gathered and revealed a note asking D'Artagnan to take care of the baby.
