Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino. I drive a FIAT Cinquecento - its an 899cc hatchback car which is a 1995 registration. I have never had any reliability problems with it, in fact it has been an excellent car. So for all of you who answered Fix It Again Tony - mine's as reliable as it could be!
24 bhp. The FIAT 500 which the 600 replaced was actually so popular that FIAT continued production of until March 1973. Such was the quality of production of both the 500 and the 600 that you can find these small FIAT in almost every city in Europe.
FIAT 126. The FIAT 126 was the cheapest car available in Britain from it's introduction in 1973 until 1989 albeit rebadged as the 126 BIS.
FIAT Tipo. The Tipo's bodywork featured galvanised body panels and a plastic tailgate to prevent corrosion. Not as crazy as it might sound as the Tipo proved a huge success for FIAT bringing the company into the 1990s free from reliability and rust problems which had plagued certain models in the 80s.
Coupe. The second generation Coupes featured a five cylinder 220bhp turbocharged engine which did 0-100 kmh in a time of 6.5 seconds! It could also top 240 kmh!
Peugeot and Citroen. The Ulysee did not prove to be a huge sucess for FIAT. However it did manage to get the jump on their collaborators by beating the Peugeot 807 and the Citroen Synergie in the sales figures in Europe.
