Edmund Grey. Edmund and Kelsey were in a car one day when Kelsey unexpectedly went into labor. Edmund immediately pulled over to help her out since they were nowhere near a hospital. He was able to help her deliver a beautiful baby boy and then they immediately went to the hospital so both Kelsey and her newborn child could be checked out.

Joe Martin. Kelsey had started to become a pain in the behind with how she was behaving towards people, especially Edmund and Maria. Since she stayed with Joe, he warned her that he was in the process of having her go back to Oregon to be with her mother, Tara. However, Kelsey persuaded him to let her stay.

Nina Cortlandt. Palmer learned that Bobby was Sam's biological father and that he also wanted to elope with Anita. He forbid Bobby from leaving Cortlandt Manor since everything needed to be sorted out and that could not be done, according to Palmer, by Bobby and Anita eloping. Palmer telephoned Nina to request she come back to Pine Valley to help out Bobby.

Edmund Grey. Kelsey changed her mind about Sam's adoption and a judge ordered that Edmund and Maria give Sam back to her. Dimitri told Maria that he had his private jet fueled up so she and Sam could leave town. However, Edmund tracked Maria down at the airport and forced her to hand Sam over to him. These tear jerking scenes were ones that Eva LaRue (Maria) submitted at the 1997 Daytime Emmys when she was up for Outstanding Supporting Actress. However, she lost to Michelle Stafford of "The Young and the Restless", though many experts had predicted Eva would win the trophy.

In August, Erica teamed up with Janet and who else to take down Jonathan Kinder?

Skye Chandler. Skye and Janet were held captive by Jonathan Kinder but Erica stopped him from hurting either woman. The three ladies formed an unusual alliance to take down Jonathan once he got away from them. This rare friendship turned out to be a hit with fans, as many cite their feud with Dr. Kinder as one of the best story lines from 1996.

In November, who was smitten by a man named Red Kilgren?

Myrtle Fargate. Myrtle had befriended a gentleman named Red Kilgren and the two eventually developed a bond that led to romance. Red had informed Myrtle that he was actually Santa Clause but Myrtle of course did not believe him. Red eventually convinced her he was Santa and the two carried out a short term courtship.

In December, which couple tied the knot?

Adam Chandler and Liza Colby. Adam and Liza had told the residents of Pine Valley that they planned on getting married. However, this was a rouse to make Tad and Brooke jealous. Their aim was to get one of the two to object at the wedding while one of them would say "no" at the altar. Adam said "yes" to marrying Liza and, to his shock, she also said "yes". Despite hating each other initially, Adam and Liza soon fell in love. They turned out to be a popular pairing with the fans as well, many of whom consider Liza his second best love after Brooke.
