    Humphrey Bogart & Bogart. Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957) was ranked as the greatest male screen legend of all time. He won an Oscar for Best Actor for "The African Queen". He is probably best known, however, for playing Rick in "Casablanca".

"North by Northwest", "The Philadelphia Story", "Bringing up Baby".
    Cary Grant & Grant. Cary Grant (1904-1986) was ranked second. He won on Honorary Oscar in 1969. Other memorable movies include "Notorious", "His Girl Friday", and "An Affair to Remember".

"It's a Wonderful Life", "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington", "Rear Window", "The Philadelphia Story", "Vertigo".
    James Stewart & Jimmy Stewart & Stewart. James Stewart (1908-1997) was ranked third. He won Best Actor for "The Philadelphia Story". In 1984 an Honorary Oscar was awarded to Mr. Stewart.

"The Godfather", "On the Waterfront", "Apocalypse Now", "A Streetcar Named Desire".
    Marlon Brando & Brando. Marlon Brando, who was born in 1924, ranked fourth. He won Best Actor Oscars for "On the Waterfront" and for "The Godfather".

    Fred Astaire & Astaire. Fred Astaire (1899-1987) was ranked fifth. He won an Honorary Oscar in 1949. He is most famous for his musical comedies with Ginger Rogers.

    Henry Fonda. Henry Fonda (1905-1982) was ranked sixth. He won an Honorary Oscar in 1980 and won Best Actor for "On Golden Pond".

"Gone with the Wind", "It Happened One Night", "Mutiny on the Bounty".
    Clark Gable & Gable. Clark Gable (1901-1960) was ranked seventh. He was nominated for Best Actor for all three of these films, but won only for "It Happened One Night".

"Yankee Doodle Dandy".
    Jimmy Cagney. James Cagney (1899-1986) was ranked eighth. He won Best Actor for "Yankee Doodle Dandy". He is best known as a star in many gangster films in the 1930's.

"Guess Who's Coming to Dinner".
    Spencer Tracy. Spencer Tracy (1900-1967) was ranked ninth. He won back-to-back Best Actor Oscars for "Captain Courageous" and for "Boys Town". "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" was his last film.

"The Gold Rush", "City Lights", "Modern Times".
    Charlie Chaplin & Charles Chaplin & Chaplin. Charlie Chaplin (1889-1977) was ranked tenth. He won Honorary Oscars in 1927 and 1971 and won Best Score in 1972 for "Limelight".

"High Noon".
    Gary Cooper. Gary Cooper (1901-1961) was ranked eleventh. He won Best Actor for "High Noon" and also for "Sergeant York". In addition, he won an Honorary Oscar in 1960.

"To Kill a Mockingbird".
    Gregory Peck. Gregory Peck (1916-2003) was ranked twelfth. He won Best Actor for portraying Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird". He won the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1967.

"Stagecoach", "The Searchers".
    John Wayne. John Wayne (1907-1979) was ranked thirteenth. He won Best Actor in 1969 for "True Grit".

"Wuthering Heights".
    Laurence Olivier. Lord Laurence Olivier (1907-1989) was ranked fourteenth. He won Best Actor for "Hamlet" and won two Honorary Oscars during his lifetime.

"Singin' in the Rain", "An American in Paris".
    Gene Kelly. Gene Kelly (1912-1996) was ranked fifteenth. He won an Honorary Oscar in 1951. He was the key figure in shaping the grand age of the Hollywood musical.

"Citizen Kane", "The Third Man".
    Orson Welles. Orson Welles (1915-1985) was ranked sixteenth. He won Best Screenplay for "Citizen Kane" in 1941 and an Honorary Award in 1970. He acted in, directed, wrote, and produced "Citizen Kane".

    Kirk Douglas & Douglas. Kirk Douglas, who was born in 1916, was ranked seventeenth. He won an Honorary Oscar in 1996.

    James Dean. James Dean (1931-1955) was ranked eighteenth. He is the first person to have been nominated for two Oscars posthumously. He died in a car crash.

"From Here to Eternity".
    Burt Lancaster. Burt Lancaster (1913-1994) was ranked nineteenth. He won Best Actor for "Elmer Gantry". Other famous movies include "Judgement at Nuremberg" and "Sweet Smell of Success".

"Duck Soup".
    The Marx Brothers. The twentieth-ranked Marx Brothers, were Groucho (Julius), Chico (Leonard), Harpo (Adolph), Zeppo (Herbert), and originally Gummo (Milton).

    Buster Keaton & Keaton. Buster Keaton (1895-1966) was ranked twenty-first. He won an Honorary Oscar in 1959.

"Guess Who's Coming to Dinner".
    Sidney Poitier. Sidney Poitier, who was ranked twenty-second, was born in 1924. He was the first African American to win Best Actor, which was for "Lilies of the Field" in 1963. He won an Honorary Oscar in 2002.

    Robert Mitchum & Mitchum. Robert Mitchum (1917-1997) was ranked twenty-third. He was nominated for an Oscar for the movie which brought him to prominence, "The Story of G.I. Joe".

"Double Indemnity".
    Edward G. Robinson. Edward G. Robinson (1893-1973) was ranked twenty-fourth. He won an Honorary Oscar in 1972. He is perhaps most famous as a gangster boss in "Little Caesar".

"Sunset Blvd.", "The Bridge on the River Kwai", "Network", "The Wild Bunch".
    William Holden & Holden. William Holden (1918-1981) was ranked twenty-fifth. He won Best Actor for "Stalag 17" in 1953.
