    Sam Bass. Bass was shot in Round Rock, Texas after Jim Murphy tipped off Texas Rangers that the gang was going to rob the bank there. Murphy did this after being promised immunity for his past crimes. Shot several times Bass died the next day, July 21, 1878, his 27th birthday.

Which gang carried out the largest train robbery in the USA?
    The Newtons. The Newton brothers of Texas robbed trains and banks throughout the U.S. and Canada in 1918-1924. On June 24, 1924, they robbed a train at Rondout, Illinois of over $3 million in cash, they were caught seeking medical help for one of the brothers who had been shot by accident during the robbery. They all served short sentences in Leavenworth.
