Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the game of checkers, which piece can move forward and backward diagonally, and jump over other pieces?

Answer: king

After a piece reaches the other side, it becomes a 'king' and may move in any direction and jump other pieces.
2. Which of these terms would be used in the game of bridge?

Answer: all of these

Players bid and then the partners winning the bid play the contract. One of the partners also plays the other partner's hand, called the 'dummy,' across the table from him. If they bid a seven contract, it is a grand slam.
3. Which game does not fit with the others?

Answer: backgammon

All are card games except backgammon, which is played with a board, dice and checkers.
4. In cribbage, which card, when turned up by the 'cut' at the beginning of play, is worth two points to the dealer?

Answer: jack

If a jack (called 'his heels') is turned up, the dealer gets two points.
5. In Yahtzee, which of these scores is worth more than the Bonus earned in the upper section?

Answer: Large straight

If you score 63 or more in the upper section, you earn a Bonus of 35 points. A Full House is worth 25, a Small straight is worth 30 and a Large straight is worth 40 points. A Yahtzee is worth 50, but NOT the only score greater than the Bonus.
6. What game am I playing if these terms are used? - middle bar, checkers, dice.

Answer: backgammon

The game pieces are called checkers in Backgammon. Dice are thrown to move the checkers and if a checker gets 'bumped' during play, it goes to the middle bar.
7. In Balderdash, points are earned by doing what?

Answer: lying

Basically, you are lying in the game of Balderdash by making up a definition that is false. The more people who believe your definition, the more points you win.
8. In eight-ball or pool, what colour are the number 2 solid and number 10 stripe balls?

Answer: blue

The 1/9 are yellow, 2/10 are blue, 3/11 are red and 6/14 are green. There are seven solids and seven stripes with the eighth ball being the black eight ball.
American-style eight-ball is played around the world professionally and recreationally. The rules may be the most contested of any billiard game.
9. How many coloured street properties are for sale in the American version of Monopoly?

Answer: 22

There are five properties on the first and last sides of the board. The other two sides have six properties each.
10. When the defenders euchre the makers in the game of Euchre, how many points do they score?

Answer: 2

You score two points for a euchre. But if you ever choose to 'go alone' as a defender, you will get four points if you euchre the makers.
