    World War I. After the war Austria-Hungary was split up in several states: Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, to name a few.

Now I will ask you some questions about the regions of the Austro-Hungarian empire. I will give you the capitals, you give me the regions. I start with Budapest.
    Hungary. At this time Hungary was three times bigger than now. Parts of Slovakia, Romania and Yugoslavia belonged to Hungary.

The capital of this region is Brno.
    Moravia. Today's Czech Republic consists of Bohemia and Moravia.

The capital of this region is Prague.
    Bohemia. Bohemia is the main part of the Czech Republic. During World War II it was part of the protectorate Bohemia-Moravia, German Bohmen-Mahren, controlled by Nazi-Germany.

The capital of this region is Czernowitz.
    Bukovina. Bukovina was divided between Romania and Ukraina after World War II.

The capital of this region is Sarajevo.
    Bosnia-Herzegovina. This region was formally annexed to Austria-Hungary 1908. The assasination of the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo June 1914 precipitated World War I.

The capital of this region is Zadar, or Zara.
    Dalmatia. Dalmatia is now part of Croatia.

The capital of this region is Troppau.
    Silesia. Austrian Silesia was made a seperate "crownland" in 1849. The greater part passed to Czechoslovakia in 1919. Smaller parts passed to Poland.

The capital of this region is Graz.
    Styria. Is called Steiermark in German.

The capital of this region is Innsbruck.
    Tirol.

The capital of this region is Klagenfurt.
    Carinthia. Is called Kärnten in German.

The capital of this region is Laibach, or Ljubljana.
    Carniola. German: Krain. Carniola is now part of Slovenia and Ljubljana is the capital of this country.

The capital of this region is Agram, or Zagreb.
    Croatia-Slavonia. The area is now part of Croatia, and Zagreb is the capital of this country.

The capital of this region is Linz.
    Upper Austria.

The capital of this region is Bregenz.
    Vorarlberg.

The capital of this region is Lwow, or Lvov, or Lemberg.
    Galicia. Galicia came to Poland after World War I, but was divided between Poland and Ukrainian USSR after World War II.

The capital of this region is Trieste.
    Coastland. Küstenland is the German name for this region. Triste is now in Italy, while the rest of the area belongs to Croatia or Slovenia.

The Banat was a part of the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy. What is the most important city in the Banat?
    Temesvar. The Hungarian name of the city is Temesvar, the Romanian name is Timisoara. The city is now in Romania. The Banat was divided between Yugoslavia and Romania after World War I.
