    f. Of course not. The Yankees only won 67 games that year and had sole possesion of last place in the AL East. Furthermore, the Boston Red Sox won the AL East division in 1990.

The Chicago White Sox won the American League title in 1959.
    t. 1959 was the last year the White Sox appeared in the World Series. They lost to the Dodgers in 6 games.

The New York Yankees won the AL East in 1980.
    t. Despite winning 103 games that year the Bronx Bombers bombed in the ALCS. They were incapable of winning a single game against the Kansas City Royals and lost the first round of the playoffs 3 games to 0.

Ted Williams hit 521 home runs as a member of the Boston Red Sox.
    t. Williams probably would have hit many more but he served time in World War II and the Korean War. This caused him to miss nearly five seasons. He retired when the 1960 season was over, after hitting a home run in his final major league at bat.

Rod Carew was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1967.
    t. Carew won 7 batting titles and had 3053 hits during his career. In addition, he was the AL MVP in 1977 when he hit for a .388 batting average. He was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1991.

The Oakland A's won the 1990 World Series.
    f. Although the A's won 103 regular season games they were swept in the World Series by the Reds, who were managed by Lou Piniella.

Roger Clemens won the Cy Young Award in 1995.
    f. Although Boston won the AL East by 7 games over the Yankees, Clemens contributed very little. On July 13,1995 the Rangers hit 4 homers off him in 1 game. He was not durable, missing 2 months to a shoulder injury.In 1995 he only had 10 wins, a 4.18 ERA and 132 strkeouts and exactly ZERO complete games.

Cal Ripkin won 2 AL MVPs, Rookie of the Year, and 2 All-Star game MVPs during his career.
    t. Cal hit over 400 home runs, 3000 hits, and of course played in 2632 consecutive games. Cal retired after the 2001 season. His career is an inspiration to all.

In the first 6 seasons that the AL East existed, the Yankees won the division 5 of those seasons.
    f. The Yankees did not win the division once in that time span. The AL East was created in 1969. The Orioles won the division in 1969, 1970, 1971, 1973, and 1974. The Tigers won in 1972.
