Fun Trivia: B : Bible for Kids

Special Sub-Topic: Bible People

Let's start at the beginning. Who was the first man?

Adam. The name Adam means 'man' and it was the name God gave the first man when he made him. His wife was called Eve.

His brothers sold him into slavery, but he became very important in Egypt when he was older.
Joseph. A man called Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote a musical play about Joseph for a school in the early 1970s, and now it is a musical which is played all over the world. There is even a video of it starring Donny Osmond - it is called 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat'.

This lady loved her mother-in-law so much she left her country and went with her to another land.
Ruth. Ruth has a whole book to herself in the Bible! She was to become King David's Great-Grandmother. The words she said to her mother-in-law Naomi are sometimes used when people get married - 'Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live.'

Who built a big boat, and saved the animals from the Flood?
Noah. Noah and the Ark (which is what they called the boat) is a well-known story, and if you like, you can read about it in Genesis (the first book in the Bible) chapter 7.

Because he was so little, this man climbed a tree so he could see Jesus when he came to town. Then Jesus came to his house for tea!
Zacchaeus. This story is in the Gospel of Luke (the third book of the New Testament), chapter 19. It is fun to think of a little man having to climb a tree to see past all the taller people!

This special lady had a visit from an angel and then became the mother of Jesus.
Mary. Gabriel was the angel who came to Mary. She and her husband, Joseph, went to Bethlehem where she had the baby. The four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, tell the story of Jesus' life when he grew up.

Do you know the name of the man who ran away from God, jumped on a boat and then got swallowed by a big fish?
Jonah. He was inside the big fish for three days! There is a book in the Bible just about Jonah (and called 'Jonah') so you can read all about him.

When King David was a young man he was best friends with the King's son - but what was the Prince's name?
Jonathan. Jonathan was King Saul's son. After King Saul, David was the King of Israel. He married Jonathan's sister, Michal.

One of Jesus' Disciples was called Simon and Jesus gave him a new name - a sort of nickname. Do you know what it was?
Simon Peter. In their language 'Peter' means a rock or a stone, so Jesus was giving Simon a nickname which meant he was 'as solid as a rock'. Rather nice, really!

This woman entered a beauty contest and married a King!
Esther. Like Ruth, Esther has a book named after her, and this tells the exciting story of how Esther saved all the Jewish people in the Persian Empire. It is in the Old Testament.
