Fun Trivia: I : Italy & Vatican City

Special Sub-Topic: Cultura Italiana

Which one is NOT a region of Italy?

Corsica. Corisca is actually a part of France.

Who was the rival of Firenze during the Middle Ages?
Siena. Siena and Firenze are long time rivals and actually had a number of armed conflicts. Unfortunately during the Black Plague in the 1300's the population of Siena was so damaged that they no longer remained a threat to Firenze.(FYI-Firenze is the Italian name for Florence)

Who was the leader of the Risorgimento (the Italian Unification)?
Garibaldi. Garibaldi is considered the 'leader' of the Risorgimento, which only occured during the 19th century. Up until that point Italy consisted of a number of city-states, noble land holdings and territories occupied by foreign powers such as Austria and Spain.

What does 'magari' mean?
if only. This is one of my favourite Italian words as there is so much meaning in it. English could do with a term like that!

What is the name of Boccaccio's 1351 collection of short stories?
The Decameron & Decameron & Prince Galeotto & Decamerone. This is the first prose novel written (as opposed to poetry) and one of my all time favourite books. I love that I can find something from 1351 absolutely hysterically funny. A true classic. And also the basis and inspiration for Chaucer's 'The Canterbury Tales'.
