Ida and Marie. They are both Grade One Ols who have been following Leif, Barda, and Jasmine for quite a while. Grade One Ols can't eat, can't produce body heat, and always travel in pairs. They all bare the Shadow Lord's mark somewhere. They are the first, and worst, Ols made. They are as common as dirt. There is also Grade Two Ols and Grade Three Ols. They are the Shadow Lords perfect spies and weapons. In them his evil art has been perfected. Your best friend could be a Grade Two Ol and you would never suspect them. Grade Three Ols can even mimic non-living things. That means a rock, a dagger; even the computer you're looking at now could be a Grade Three Ol.

What do the weapons of the Resistance shoot?

Fire. They must be pretty advanced weapons to fire fireballs. I wonder how they would manufacture them. They are very deadly too. One almost roasted Jasmine when they couldn't give the password. The weapons must be useful if an Ol came along...

What is the password for the Resistance the day Leif, Barda, and Jasmine arrive?

weapon. The Resistance uses a simple code where the first letter in a group of words spells out the password. The note that reveals the code to Leif, Barda, and Jasmine says 'When enemies at pass, orders normal.' The Resistance has many codes, such as Quality Brand Honey meaning Queen Bee honey. This is a danger because Queen Bee risks her life and the lives of her sons to provide the Resistance with it.

What is Barda's nickname?

Barda the Bear. Barda was one of the best palace guards in the kingdom. Palace guards had to go through rigorous physical training and were the best fighters in the land. They were only overthrown by the Shadow Lord's magic in the end. Barda's mother had been killed the day before this happened and Barda thought he was next and fled. If he hadn't he would have perished and Leif and Jasmine would not have succeeded in the quest. Unfortunately his convenient timing in leaving led others to believe he was working for the Shadow Lord.

What is the pattern on the belt Barda buys for Leif?

Dull gold and brown leaves. The belt is very helpful as it covers the Belt of Deltora up so Dain cannot see it. When pirates steal it they think it is just a normal belt. If they knew it was the Belt of Deltora they would have sold it and destroyed the quest forever, so Barda was pretty smart to do that. Later, when they are in the Maze of the Beast, Leif cuts it open and pulls the Deltora belt out, leaving the leather belt to an ignoble end in the Maze of the Beast.

Sharp, filed teeth. Finn, Nak, and Milne are murderous pirates who destroyed Where the Water Meets and took Jasmine, Leif, Barda, and Dain hostage. They kept Dain and were going to sell him to the Grey Guards. Then Nak and Finn called Milne a fool for bringing Dain. Then Milne tried to kill Nak and Finn for calling him that. They overpowered him and threw him into the Maze of the Beast with Leif, Barda, and Jasmine where he met his demise and Leif found the gem.

The polypan's favorite snack has properties similar to what addictive substance?

Chewing tobacco. It is brown sticks that Leif buys from Steven, mistaking it for toffee. Latter the polypan on the River Queen that was captured by the pirates was bribed by Leif with it to regain the belt. When you eat it you chew it up and spit it out, like tobacco. Warning! Do not do drugs or smoke, it is very bad and it destroys your health! It kills lots of people.

What is the polypan whom Leif, Barda, and Jasmine fall in with's name?

Chett. Polypans are small, wiry creature with huge, bulging muscles. They are expert thieves and are superb boat rowers. It is said a polypan could take the shirt off of your back without you knowing. They are all addicted to this brown, toffee-like drug. Chett is a little fellow whom is kidnapped by the pirates and is driven mad by the pirates' beatings and the loss of his beloved brown gum.

Steven B. had a brother who died and it turned Steven's wits.

f. Steven is a peddler of fine wares who also works with the resistance. He is a strange creature who has a brother, Nevets, who lives inside of him and only comes out when Steven is in danger. Nevets is a huge beast that, once started will destroy anything in his way. Also the brothers' mother is none other then the Queen Bee from the Plain of the Rats who took all of Jasmine's money for a couple wizened apples.

Tranquility. The amethyst is a deep purple gem that is hidden in the horrible Maze of the Beast. It is the sixth gem, second to last and calms all who touch it.
