Oakland is not only the name of the city across the bay from San Francisco, but also a county in Michigan. But wait, we're not talking about counties in Michigan, are we? Oakland is also a township located in the county of the same name.

    Garden City. Garden City is a small middle class city west of Detroit. Mike Ilitch, the founder of Little Caesar's and the owner of baseball's Detroit Tigers and hockey's Red Wings, opened his first Little Caesar's in 1959. The first K-mart (its name refers to the company's Kresge dime stores that preceded K-mart) store opened in Garden City in 1962.

    Plymouth. The Plymouth Whalers are owned by Peter Karmanos, CEO of Detroit based Compuware and owner of the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes.

    Romulus. Detroit Metro airport is about a 20 to 30 minute drive West along 1-94 from downtown Detroit in the sparsely populated but developing city of Romulus.

    Livonia. The founder of Quicken Loans, Dan Gilbert, just recently bought majority control of the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers.
