1. Who was the faithful dog of Odysseus in Homer's "Odyssey"?

Answer: Argos

Odysseus is an unusual Greek mythical hero as he is known for having a brain as well as muscles. His weakness was in having too much pride.
2. What three-headed dog appears in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone"?

Answer: Fluffy

Fang belonged to Hagrid. Fluffy was similar to Cerberus, the creature from Greek Mythology.
3. There were 101 dalmatians including Pongo in the animated film. But who wrote the book?

Answer: Dodie Smith

Rod Taylor was the voice for Pongo in the 1961 film. Pongo was owned by Roger Radcliffe. Pongo falls in love with Perdita and they have 15 puppies. Later they are joined by another 84. Hence the total.
4. "Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog)" is a book by Jerome K Jerome. But who was the dog?

Answer: Montmorency

The three men in the boat were based on Jerome and two close friends. The dog, Montmorency, is completely made up.
5. Who was the lapdog of Dora Spenlow, David Copperfield's first wife?

Answer: Jip

Dora Spenlow was played by Joanna Page in the 1999 BBC production of "David Copperfield". In the novel she dies after failing to recover from a miscarriage.

If you look in Act 3 Scene 6 you will see this in print. Not a well known fact about "King Lear" I think.

"The Hound of the Baskervilles" was set in Dartmoor. The first episodes of it were published in 1901 in the "Strand Magazine". There are many legends about the black hound on the moor.

Answer: Border Collie

In the book Fly has four puppies but in the movie she has seven. Rex, Fly's mate in the movie, does not appear in the book. In the US the book was called "Babe the Gallant Pig".
9. Dean Koontz has written many books including "Watchers". In it there is a golden retriever dog with the name of a famous scientist. Who is the scientist and the name of the dog?

Answer: Einstein

Dean Koontz is a great writer especially if you like thrillers. He had a golden retriever dog called Trixie Koontz which is often shown on the sleeves of his book. When she died, he adopted a new dog, Anna, who was the grandniece of Trixie.
10. Which character in a Charlotte Bronte novel has a dog called Pilot?

Answer: Mr. Rochester

If you read "The Eyre Affair" by Jasper Fforde you will get a new slant on this novel.
