The English bellows was invented in the nineteenth century by Sir Charles Wheatstone who gave his name to the Wheatstone Bridge, a device for measuring the value of an unknown resistor.

    Virginal. V - Vanadium I - Iodine Rg - Roentgenium In - Indium Al - Aluminium VIRgInAl The virginal is a keyboard instrument which was popular in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Unlike a piano, where the strings are hit, the virginal's strings are plucked by a plectrum attached to the key.

    Soprano. S - Sulfur O - Oxygen P - Phosphorus Ra - Radium No - Nobelium SOPRaNo The soprano is the highest singing voice. Soprano is also used to describe the smaller, and thus higher pitched, recorders, clarinets and saxophones.

    Bassoon. Ba - Barium S - Sulfur S - Sulfur O - Oxygen O - Oxygen N - Nitrogen BaSSOON The bassoon is one of the largest members of the woodwind family. Its double reed is connected to the main body of the instrument by a tube known as a bocal. In an orchestra the bassoonists sit behind the violas and the cellos.

    Harmonica. H - Hydrogen Ar - Argon Mo - Molybdenum Ni - Nickel Ca - Calcium HArMoNiCa The harmonica, which is also known as a mouth organ, has been used in many different types of music including blues, classical, jazz and folk music. Larry Adler, who is one of the best known harmonica players, won an Oscar for playing the theme tune for the film "Genevieve".

Fluorine, Rhenium, Nitrogen, Carbon, Hydrogen, Holmium, Radon
    French Horn. F - Fluorine Re - Rhenium N - Nitrogen C - Carbon H - Hydrogen Ho - Holmium Rn - Radon FReNCH HoRn The French Horn is part of the brass section of an orchestra. If it were uncoiled, it would be over 20' (6m) long. Prokofiev used it as the instrument to represent the wolf in his composition for children "Peter and the Wolf".

    Fife. F - Fluorine I - Iodine Fe - Iron FIFe A fife is a small woodwind instrument similar to a piccolo. It is usually used in military bands or to play folk music. The fife, along with a musket and drum, gets mentioned in the song "Soldier, soldier, won't you marry me?"
