    Spell/charm. There were four principal types of piseog: protective, romantic, for a good harvest,or a curse. It was believed that burying eggs on a neighbour's farm would adversely affect the milk yield.

With what art form is William Fox Talbot most associated?
    Photography. He was a pioneer photographer and worked with a camera called a 'mousetrap'. Between 1844-46 he published the first book to be illustrated with photographs, 'The Pencil of Nature'.

In ancient Egypt only kings, queens and gods could carry the Ankh?
    T. This was the symbol of giving life or taking it away from lesser mortals.

Which planet was reached by Voyager 2 on 24th January 1986?
    Uranus. It had already flown past Jupiter and Saturn. A nuclear generator powered the craft.

What was an adze most commonly used for in the Stone Age?
    Shaping wood. The cutting edge is asymmetrical and the blade is at right angles to the handle. Adzes have been dated back to the Mesolithic period.

How many pages are in the Book of Kells?
    680. This magnificent work is full of wonderful surprises. The ornamented capitals were used to help the reader find his place in the text, which at the time was not divided into chapters and verses. Sometimes there is a bit of fun from the monks. In the text, 'No man can serve two masters', the word 'Nemo [no man]' is formed by two men pulling each others' beard and fighting.

Was a pugio a boxer in ancient Rome?
    N. It was a double-edged dagger worn by soldiers at their left side.

In the Middle Ages what colour was the Reeve's stick?
    White. The reeve was chosen by the peasants to supervise their work. His stick was the symbol of his office.

In which culture would a Haramaki be worn?
    Japan. This was a type of body armour or breastplate to protect the upper body. Skirts called kasazuri were added to protect the lower body.

Was Chamlet a medieval cloth?
    Y. It was the most widely used material for everyday garments. It was cloth woven from wool and goats hair.
