I was the 5th President of the United States. I also served as Secretary of State, Governor of Virginia and Minister to France. A famous doctrine bears my name.

James Monroe. Monroe was not originally buried in Hollywood. He was originally buried in New York at the Gouverneur family vault in New York City Marble Cemetery. Twenty-seven years later, in 1858, he was re-interred at Hollywood Cemetery.

I was the 10th President of the United States. I was Vice President for 32 days until William Henry Harrison died making me the first Vice President to assume the presidency after the death of the president.

John Tyler. Tyler has been the only President to be president pro tempore of the Senate. Tyler was elected to the House of Representatives of the Confederacy in 1861 but died before taking office. He is also the president who had the most children - 15.

I am the other American president to be buried here but I was not President of the United States; I was President of the Confederate States of America.

Jefferson Davis. Jefferson Davis served as US senator from Mississippi and also served as Secretary of War to President Franklin Pierce.

I was a Major General of the cavalry for the Confederacy and a two time governor of Virginia. I'm still not as famous as my well known uncle.

Fitzhugh Lee. After his terms as Governor of Virginia, Fitzhugh Lee was appointed consul general of Havana by President Cleveland. During the Spanish American War he was made a major general of United States Volunteers. He retired as a brigadier general of the U.S. Army in 1901.

I was a two time Governor of Virginia and held office at the end of the Civil War. I also was a major general for the Confederacy during the war. Most people know me as Extra-Billy

William Smith. Extra-Billy was one of the oldest generals during the Civil War. His nickname came when he got a contract from the government to deliver mail between Washington, D.C., and Milledgeville, Georgia. Smith added new routes, generating extra fees.

I commanded the cavalry of the Army of Northern Virginia for most of the War. I was General Lee's "eyes".

J.E.B. Stuart. Stuart's father-in-law Philip St. George Cooke was a major general in the Union Army, though after Stuart's ride around the Union Army he left field command.

I am a two time Pulitzer Prize winning author for my four volume biography of Robert E. Lee and my six volume biography of George Washington.

Douglas Southall Freeman. There is a 7th book of Freeman's Washington biography written by J. A. Carroll and M. W. Ashworth after Freeman's death. Freeman also wrote a three volume book entitled "Lee's Lieutenants: A Study in Command". He was editor of the "Richmond News" leader from 1915 to 1949.

I am most famous for my brigades charge at Gettysburg.

George Pickett. Pickett will forever be linked with Gettysburg. A West Point graduate Class of 1846 he graduated last in a class of 59. During the Battle of the Five Forks, a pivotal battle during the Siege of Petersburg, Pickett was two miles away enjoying a shad bake with some of his other generals. This victory by the Union sometimes referred to as the Waterloo of the Confederacy persuaded Lee to abandon Petersburg.

My nickname was the Pathfinder of the Seas. I was the first superintendent of the United States Naval Observatory. During the Civil War I served as Chief of Seacoast, River and Harbor Defences for the Confederacy. Despite this my statue is probably the least known on Richmond's Monument Avenue.

Matthew Fontaine Maury. Three U.S. naval ships have been named the USS Maury. Another was named the USS Commodore Maury. One of his contributions to the Confederate war effort was the perfection of the electric torpedo which today would be classified as a mine. Maury published many works dealing with the weather, wind and currents of the Seas and whale migration.

I died in 1999. I served as President of the American Bar Association in 1964-65. In 1969 President Nixon asked me to become a member of the Supreme Court, but I declined. When he asked me again in 1971 I accepted and served on the court from 1972 to 1987.

Lewis Powell Jr.. For most of his career Powell was considered a swing vote on the court seeking compromise. He was nominated on the same day as William Rehnquist. He served on the corporate board of Phillip Morris from 1964 till his nomination to the court in 1971.
