Starting in Slovakia, one of the most important lost territories of Hungary. The present capital Bratislava was called _______ in Hungarian?

    Pozsony. Slovakia and Carpatho-Ukraine were both lost to Czechoslovakia after WW1. Both Slovakia, Vojvodina (Yugoslavia) and Transylvania (Romania) still have large Hungarian minorities.

We remain in Slovakia. Slovakia´s second largest city Kosice was called _______ in Hungarian?
    Kassa. Kosice was ceded to Hungary in 1938 but returned to Czechoslovakia after WW2. It's been part of independent Slovakia since 1992.

Now to Carpatho-Ukraina, lost to Czechoslovakia after WW1. The former capital of this area, Uzhgorod, was called _______ in Hungarian?
    Ungvár. Uzhgorod today belongs to Ukraine. The area fell to Soviet Union after WW2, and to independent Ukraine in 1991. The area is also called Carpathian Ruthenia or Zakarpatska in Ukrainian. Czech name is Podkarpatská Rus.

Now we go to an area which was given to former Yugoslavia after WW1. The city Novi Sad is today in Yugoslavia. It´s chief town of the Vojvodina region (Serbia). It was called _______ in Hungarian?
    Újvidék. Croatia, Slavonia and Vojvodina were all lost to Yugoslavia after WW1.

Now to the largest and most important of the Hungarian losses, namely Transylvania (Romania). This are was lost to Romania after WW1. The city of Oradea was called _______ in Hungarian?
    Nagyvárad. Oradea is a very old town, bishopric founded by Hungarian Lászlo I ca.1080. It was held by Turks 1660-92.

We are still in Transylvania. The city of Cluj (Cluj-Napoca) was called ______ in Hungarian?
    Kolozsvár. Under the German name Klausenburg this city was founded in 12th century. Cluj was declared a free town in 1405. In the 1970s it was joined with neighboring Napoca.

Still in Transylvania, Timosoara was the city where the Romanian revolution started in 1989. It was called _____ in Hungarian?
    Temesvár. Timosoara is one of the most international towns in the area. Here are both Hungarian, German and Serbian minorities. It was held by Turks 1552-1716 and captured in 1716 by Austrians under Prince Eugene of Savoy.

The city of Tirgu-Mures (also in Transylvania) was called _______ in Hungarian?
    Maros-Vásárhely. Tirgu-Mures (or Targu-Mures), like some other territories lost by the Treaty of Trianon in 1920, had a short-lived period as Hungarian again in the period 1940-45.

The final question about Transylvania: The city of Alba Iulia was called _______ in Hungarian?
    Gyulafehérvar. The city was scene of proclamation of union of Transylvania with Romania in 1918. In German it was known as Karlsburg.

In this last question I will ask about the only major city lost by Hungary to Austria after WW1. The city by Neusiedler Lake now known as Eisenstadt is capital of Austrian region Burgenland. It was called ______ in Hungarian?
    Kismarton. By plebiscite in 1921 all of Burgenland (except the city of Sopron) fell to Austria.
