He appeared as Lt. John Kendrick in ‘A Few Good Men’, the evil Robert Doob in ‘Eye For An Eye’, and the Caller who kept Colin Farrell pinned inside that ‘Phone Booth’.

Kiefer Sutherland. This one is actually a bit of a cheat, because although Kiefer is the son of a prominent Canadian actor, and was raised largely Canadian, he was actually born in London, England on Dec. 21, 1966. He shows a wonderful range in his abilities, but seems to excel at playing the nasty.

He lent his voice talents to that adorable green ogre in ‘Shrek’, and bounced around the screen as the title character in ‘The Cat in the Hat’. You might know him best as that incredible ‘man of mystery – Austin Powers’.

Mike Myers. Myers was born on May 25, 1963, in Scarborough, Ontario. He got his big break as a ‘not ready for prime-time-player’ on the show ‘Saturday Night Live’ where he spent 6 seasons.

She played Caroline in ‘Chocolat’, and Natalie in ‘Memento’. She might be best known for her role of Trinity, in ‘The Matrix’ trilogy.

Carrie-Anne Moss. She was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on Aug. 21, 1967. She started out by doing some modeling in Europe, switching over to acting when she secured a role in the T.V. series ‘Dark Justice’.

He’s been the Riddler in ‘Batman Forever’, Bruce Nolan in ‘Bruce Almighty’, and that evil, Christmas-hating Grinch, in ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’.

Jim Carrey & Carrey. Carrey was born on Jan. 17, 1962, in Newmarket, Ontario, and he seemed to be possessed with the urge to entertain from the very beginning. He even sent off a resume to ‘The Carol Burnett Show’ when he was only 10 years old.

He was the tragic ship designer, Thomas Andrews, in ‘Titanic’, and the professor who put the moves on Reese in ‘Legally Blonde’. In ‘First Wives Club’ he played Goldie Hawn’s ex who got his comeuppance when he learned that his current girlfriend was young enough to get him into some serious trouble.

Victor Garber. Garber was born in London, Ontario on Mar. 16, 1949, where he attended my high school (although he was quite a few years ahead of me!). He got his big break playing Jesus in ‘Godspell’, both on stage and screen.

She played the title role in black and white movies like ‘Rosita’, and ‘Pollyanna’ and even appeared as Cho Cho San in ‘Madame Butterfly’. However she was probably best known as ‘America’s Sweetheart’, even though she was Canadian born.

Mary Pickford. Born on Apr. 8, 1892 in Toronto, Ontario, Pickford made an amazing 252 movies before she retired. She died at the age of 87, of a cerebral hemorrhage.

His genius is comedy, and he’s played such roles as Dr. Raymond Stantz in ‘Ghostbusters’, and Elwood Blues in ‘The Blues Brothers’. However he has been known to play it straight, and you might recognize him as Captain Thurman in ‘Pearl Harbour’. (We must use the Canadian spelling in this quiz about Canadians!)

Dan Akroyd. This ‘Saturday Night Live’ alumnus was born on July 1, 1952 in Ottawa, Ontario. He attended Carleton University, majoring in Criminology and Sociology before dropping out to join the comedy troupe ‘Second City’.

He played Dr. Benjamin Stone in ‘Doc Hollywood’, and gave his voice talents to Milo James Hatch in ‘Atlantis: The Lost Empire’. However his most easily recognizable role will probably always be that of Marty McFly in the ‘Back to the Future’ movies.

Michael J. Fox. Born on June 9, 1961 in Edmonton, Alberta, Fox revealed in 1998 that he suffers from Parkinson’s Disease, after 7 years of keeping his condition hidden.

She was Maude in ‘The Great Waldo Pepper’, and Kathy Lutz in ‘The Amityville Horror’, but she’s probably best known for flying around with Chritopher Reeve as Lois Lane in the ‘Superman’ movies.

Margot Kidder. Born on Oct. 17, 1948 in Yellowknife, North West Territories, Kidder has struggled for much of her life with manic depression. She now spends a great deal of time acting in live theatre.

This handsome Canadian has played a variety of roles, including Sherlock Holmes in ‘Murder by Decree’, Dr. Rosen in ‘A Beautiful Mind’, and Captain von Trapp in ‘The Sound of Music’.

Christopher Plummer. Born in Toronto, Ontario on Dec. 13, 1927, Plummer’s rich voice has leant itself well to the theatre. He was honoured with the ‘Companion of the Order of Canada’ in 1968, which is about as close as we can get to a knighthood!
