Special Sub-Topic: Inside the Galaxy Class

How long is a Galaxy class starship?

643 meters. Galaxy class ships are roughly 643 meters long. Although once the longest ships in Starfleet, they have been exceeded by the Sovereign class vessels, which are 685 meters long.

Where were the first Galaxy class starships built?
Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, Mars. The first Galaxy class ships were designed and built at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, Mars. Ships constructed there include the first Galaxy class ship the USS Galaxy, and the famous USS Enterprise-D.

Which of the following ships is NOT of the Galaxy class?
USS Endeavour NCC-71805. The only ship here that is not of the Galaxy class is the USS Endeavour, which is of the Nebula class. The Enterprise-D is of course the most famous and is featured in "TNG". The Odyssey is famous for being destroyed by the Jem'Hadar in the "DS9" episode "The Jem'Hadar", and the Yamato is famous for having been destroyed by a computer virus in the "TNG" episode "Contagion".

According to the technical manual, how many torpedo launchers are on a standard Galaxy class starship?
3 & three. Most Galaxy class ships maintain 3 torpedo launchers. Two are located in the stardrive or battle section and one in the saucer section, which is exposed only when the saucer has been separated from the stardrive section.

How many shuttlebays do the Galaxy class starships have?
3 & three. The Galaxy class ships have 3 shuttlebays. Shuttlebay 1 or the main shuttlebay is located behind the bridge module on the top of the saucer section, facing the rear of the ship. Shuttlebays 2 and 3 are located side by side on the "neck" of the stardrive section, also facing rear.

In an emergency situation, how many people can the Galaxy class ships hold?
15,000. In an emergency situation, the Galaxy class starships can support 15,000 people. However, during normal operations, Galaxy class ships usually carry around 1000. The USS Enterprise-D carried around 1014 people, including crew and families. The amount of people a starship can carry is usually limited by the amount of life-support the ship can provide, as opposed to the actual space available.

At one point, the Galaxy class USS Enterprise-D was the flagship of Starfleet and the Federation. Of what class was the previous flagship?
Ambassador. The previous flagship was the USS Enterprise-C, an Ambassador class starship. The Galaxy class was design to eventually replace this and other designs such as the Oberth class. The ship that eventually succeeded the Galaxy class Enterprise-D as flagship was the Sovereign class USS Enterprise-E.

Now let's see if you know your locations. On what deck of a Galaxy class ship would you find the battle bridge?
    8. The battle bridge is located on deck 8, at the top of the stardrive section. The battle bridge is only exposed when the ship is in separated flight mode. The battle bridge module on Galaxy class starships can be removed and replaced with differently designed modules if necessary.

On what deck of a Galaxy class starship is main engineering?
    36. Main engineering is located on deck 36 on Galaxy class starships. This area serves as the master control for all propulsion systems as well as other ship's systems. In an emergency main engineering can also be used as an backup control center, if the main bridge and the battle bridge have been disabled.

Galaxy class ships carry a warp-capable captain's yacht on the underside of the saucer.
False. Galaxy class ships carry a captain's yacht, but unlike the Sovereign class yacht, it is not warp capable. The Enterprise-D's yacht was named the Calypso, after Jacques Cousteau's ship.
