    December 3, 1907. Janet Norton Lee was born on December 3, 1907 to Margret and James Lee.

Where did Janet begin her college education?
    Sweet Briar College. Janet began college at Sweet Briar in rural Virginia. She had originally planned to attend Vassar, but changed her mind. While at Sweet Briar many people asked her if she was related to Robert E. Lee and Janet answered yes! After a year at Sweet Briar Janet went back to New York and studied for some time at Barnard College in Manhattan. Janet did not finish college.

Janet was extremly embarrassed by her grandmother, Maria Merritt.
    t. Janet's grandmother, Maria, came to live with the Lee family in 1920. She spoke with a thick Irish brogue and often helped the maids and butlers clean. Janet felt ashamed of Maria, who was not afraid of hard work. Janet often told friends who came to her family's apartment that her grandmother was a maid.

Janet was a champion _________. Hint: Jacqueline also excelled at this sport.
    equestrienne. Janet enjoyed horse riding and horses. For her, it was a means to release anger and emotions. It was a hobby that she passed on to her children.

When were Janet Norton Lee and John Vernou Bouvier III married?
    July 7, 1928. The couple were married in St. Philomena's Roman Catholic Church in East Hampton, Connecticut. Black Jack is burried in the cemetery at the church.

When did Janet give birth to her first child?
    July 28, 1929. Janet gave birth to Jacqueline Lee Bouvier on July 28, 1929. Jacqueline was followed by Caroline Lee Bouvier in 1933.

In what year did Janet and John "Black Jack" Bouvier separate?
    1936. Due to Black Jack's womanizing and drinking the couple separated in 1936 and were divorced by 1940.

When were Janet Lee Bouvier and Hugh D. Auchincloss married?
    June 21, 1942. Janet and Hugh were married in a short fifteen minute ceremony on the grounds of Hugh's estate, Merrywood. Due to war-time travel restrictions, Janet's daughters, Jacqueline and Lee, were not able to attend.

How many children did Janet give birth to?
    4 & four. Janet gave birth to Jacqueline Lee Bouvier in 1929, Caroline Lee Bouvier in 1933, Janet Jennings Auchincloss in 1945, and James Auchincloss in 1947. Janet also helped Hugh raise his children, Nini, Yusha, and Tommy Auchincloss, from his first two marriges.

Janet remarried after her second husband, Hugh, died.
    t. Janet married Bingham "Booch" Morris on October 25, 1979. Morris was an old friend of hers and the two were highly incompatible. They never divorced, but after awhile Janet was back to using the Auchincloss name.

What was Janet doing on November 22, 1963?
    Playing golf with one of her girlfriends.. Janet went golfing with one of her friends, Lady Margaret Walker. Shortly after returning home she recieved a call from Nancy Tuckerman, Jacqueline's friend from Miss Porter's, and she broke her the news.

What did Janet prefer to drink with her lunch on most ocassions?
    Buttermilk. While the Auchinclosses were living at Merrywood, Janet would usually take lunch on a tray along with a goblet of buttermilk.

Janet often treated her step-grandchildren differently from her own.
    t. Janet often treated her step-grandchildren slightly different from Caroline, John, Tina, and Tony, her own children's offspring. Whenever all the family was at Hammersmith Farm, Janet would let the children of her own daughters ride her horse, but she would not let Hughdie's children's children ride. Janet also wanted one of her children or step-children to name one of their daughters after her. Hughdie's son, Yusha, named his daughter after his mother, Maya, and Janet could not stand to call her by name. She simply refered to her as "that little girl". Both Jackie and Hughdie agreed she had gone to far with all the unfairness.

______________ was the only one of Janet's daughters to graduate from college.
    Jackie& Jacqueline. Jacqueline Lee Bouvier graduated with a degree in French Literature from George Washington University in 1951. Unlike many of her girlfriends she had failed to "get a ring by Spring".

When Janet died in 1981, her remains where scattered. Where were they scattered?
    Hammersmith Farm. Some of Janet's ashes were buried in Island Cemetery along with some of her prized scarves. The remaining ashes were spread amongst the grounds of Hammersmith Farm, including the garden and the sundial. Janet Jr.'s ahses were also spread on the sundial at Hammersmith.
