What year did William I become King of England?

    1066. William ruled from 1066-1087, after which his son, also called William, succeeded him. He invaded and won the famous Battle of Hastings and was crowned at Westminster on Christmas Day, 1066.

In what year did William's son, William II, die?
    1100. WIlliam took over from his father, and lasted just 13 years as king. The cause of William II's death while hunting remains a mystery surrounded by suspicion.

Who was king in 1300?
    Edward I. Edward I was king from 1272-1307. He is noted for having called the first official parliament, in 1295. He succeeded Henry III who was king for 52 years, a long reign by the standards of the time.

How many years was Henry IV king for?
    14. Henry was king from 1399-1413. His son, Henry V (of Agincourt fame) succeeded him. The later years of Henry's reign were marked by serious health problems, and he finally died in 1413.

Henry VII was the start of which royal house?
    Tudor. The Tudor dynasty lasted from 1485-1603, when Elizabeth I died childless. Henry VII became king when he defeated Richard III in the Battle of Bosworth.

What year did Edward VI become king?
    1547. Edward was just 9 when he became king, and died just 6 years later, at the very young age of 15, from what was probably a combination of tuberculosis and the measles.

What year did James I of England and James VI of Scotland die?
    1625. The first of the Stuarts, James died in 1625 and his son Charles succeeded him. James I is probably most famous for surviving the Gunpoder Plot of 1605.

Who was king in 1680?
    Charles II. Charles II was king from 1660-1685. Strict monarchists claim that he became king when his father was beheaded in 1649.

How many years was George II king for?
    33. A run of four George's reigned, from 1714-1830. This includes George II's reign from 1727-1760.

Queen Victoria is the longest running monarch. For how many years did she reign?
    63. She ruled for a whopping 63 years, from 20 June 1837 till 22 January 1901. Because she lived so long, her son Edward was 59 when he became king. He died 9 years later.
