Fun Trivia: H : Holocaust

Special Sub-Topic: Less Well Known, No Less Evil!

I was an SS doctor who conducted sterilization experiments on females at Auschwitz, without benefit of anesthesia. My goal was to sterilize the most women possible, in the least amount of time. Who am I?

Karl Clauberg. Clauberg spent only 10 years in a Russian prison before being sent back to Germany. He was to be tried in a West German court, but died while awaiting trial in 1957. He showed no remorse for his crimes.

I was a tank General who led the blitz through Poland, France and Russia. I was also a member of the "Court of Honor" that tried members of the military for the July 20th attempt on Hitler's life. Who am I?
Heinz Guderian. Along with fellow court members Keitel and Rundstedt, Guderian turned hundreds of military officers, including friends, over to the Nazi "justice" system. Most were executed, even though they were probably innocent. He died in May, 1954.

I was in charge of Labor Mobilization (Plenipotentiary General) for Germany from 1942 to 1945. I conducted "slave raids" into occupied lands to increase the German war machine. My personal credo was that deportees should be "utilized to the utmost, with the least possible expenditure." Who am I?
Fritz Saukel. Saukel was tried at Nuremberg, and found guilty. During the trial, he sat with an astonished look upon his face, claiming that all the evidence was fake. Over and over he muttered that there was no way he could have done such deeds. However, he was found guilty and hung on Oct. 16, 1946.

I was Hitlers favorite artist, known for my nude works. I was charged with removing degenerate (i.e. modern, abstract and/or Jewish) art from German museums. I decided to sponsor a showing of all this art in a run down gallery in Munich. It proved to be a huge hit! Two million Germans flocked to the show. Who am I?
Adolf Ziegler. While millions went to see the "degenerate" art, only a few hundred thousand went to the approved show across town. Goebbels was furious, and shut the shown down. Ziegler continued with his painting, but never was truly successful. He died virtually unknown in 1959.

I wrote a famous song that was named after me and became the anthem for Nazi rallies, and for many purposes was also the German national anthemn during the Third Reich. In reality, I was a punk who was killed in a street brawl in 1930. Who am I?
Horst Wessel. Wessel was a Berlin SA officer. In his free time, he was a pimp, and drunk. He was murdered in 1930, probably in a purely personal feud. However, Goebbels turned him into a "martyr" of the Nazi cause and raised his status to that of a virtual saint.

I was an ace who flew the most missions of any German, perhaps any pilot, during the war. I was credited with 519 tank "kills" in Russia alone. Who am I?
Hans-Ulrich Rudel. Rudel was shot down twice in Russia. The first time he escaped, and returned to fly again. He was shot down a second time, and lost a leg as a result. He managed to surrender to the Americans. After release, he settled in Argentina and worked the Peron government. By 1954, he yearned for his home, so he returned to Germany. The entire time he was back, he spoke highly of Hitler, and expressed his sadness at the downfall of the Nazi regime. He later returned to South America, where he remained very active in pro-Nazi and right-wing causes.

I was military commander in occupied Norway until 1944. I am known for my harsh treatment of POWs, in particular the British. I personally signed death warrants for hundreds of prisoners.
Nikolaus von Falkenhorst. Falkenhorst was sentenced to death by a British Military court. However, claims of ill health got his sentence reduced to 25 years. He was released in 1954. Despite being so "ill", he managed to live till June, 1968.

I was a medical doctor, and SS member responsible for the "mercy killing" program. Hundreds of thousands of people were murdered - their only crime was not being a perfect Aryan. Who am I?
Werner Heyde. Heyde was captured by the Americans, but managed to escape by rolling out of the back of the wagon he was being transported in. He fled to the British zone, were he set up practice, and continued to see patients. He was used as a medical expert by local officials in court. These officials knew his previous occupation, but never asked him about it. In 1959, he gave himself up. In February 1964, five days before his trial in the West German courts was to start, he hung himself with his belt from a radiator pipe.

Just call me the "Bitch of Buchenwald." I loved to ride around the camp on my beloved horse, whipping prisoners. I am known for my selection of lampshades, pictures and a handbag - made from tattooed human skin. Who am I?
Ilse Koch. Koch was married to the Kommandant, who was executed in 1944 for corruption in his running of the camp. Ilse Koch was eventually tried by an American military court for her crimes, and in 1947 was sentenced to life. The term was reduced to four years, and by 1949 she was free. In 1951 she was tried by the Germans for killing German nationals, and again sentenced to life. Within a few years it became clear she was totally insane, and was sent to an asylum. She commited suicide in 1967.

I was the Kommandant of Auschwitz from 1940 to 1943, when I was promoted. I lived a happy life with my wife and five children in the grounds. I was always interested in the details of day to day operation of an efficient camp. I was proud to have such a successful career in the SS.
Rudolf Hoess. In March 1946, he was arrested. It so happened that just two days before he'd lost his phial of potassium cynanide and so had no way of committing suicide. After giving evidence at the Nuremberg Tribunal, he was handed over to the Polish government. He was tried, found guilty and executed for his crimes in April 1947 facing the main gate at Auschwitz with its infamous slogan "Arbeit macht frei". Two of his daughters have been very public about their father's guilt and work with Jewish groups in educating people about the Holocaust. NOTE: Rudolf Hoess should never be confused with Rudolf Hess.
