1982: Which of these future United players was NOT born this year?

    Danny Webber. Webber was born in 1981, and broke through the ranks in 2001 to make it to the first team.

1983: United won the FA Cup again this year, but who did they play in the final?
    Brighton & Hove Albion. The two teams met at Wembley Stadium on 21st May. The first game ended in a 2-2 draw, but in the replay 5 days later, United were rampant in a 4-0 victory. Bryan Robson opened the scoring in the 25th minute, and 5 minutes later, Norman Whiteside made it 2-0. Just before half-time, Robson scored his second and United's third of the game, and Arnold Muhren wrapped things up in the 62nd minute. This was United's 5th FA Cup win.

1984: Which club did United sign Gordon Strachan from?
    Aberdeen. From his debut in August 1984, until leaving the club for Leeds United in March 1989, Strachan played 201 games and scored 38 goals for United.

1985: Who scored the winning goal in the FA Cup Final against Everton?
    Norman Whiteside. The game ended level after 90 minutes, and went into extra time. Whiteside had a brave dash from the right, and planted the ball past Neville Southall in the 110th minute to give United their 6th FA Cup.

1986: Who became Alex Ferguson's first signing for United?
    Viv Anderson. Alex Ferguson is regarded as one of the greatest managers in British football history. On November 6, 1986, he was unveiled as the new manager of United, replacing Ron Atkinson. Viv Anderson signed for United in July 1987.

1987: Who was Frank Stapleton's main strike partner this year?
    Peter Davenport. Between them, they scored 24 goals in all competitions as United finished 11th in the league.

1988: In his first season for United, how many goals did Brian McClair score?
    31. McClair was an ever-present in the squad in the 1987/88 season, and became the first United player since George Best in 1967/68 to score more than 20 goals in a season.

1989: Which player did United buy to set the highest British transfer record for a defender at that time?
    Gary Pallister & Pallister. Pallister was signed from Middlesbrough in August 1989, and stayed with the club until returning to Teeside in 1998, after amassing 431 games and scoring 15 goals for United.

1990: United won the FA Cup for the 3rd time in 7 years with a 1-0 replay victory against Crystal Palace. What was the score in the first game?
    3-3. Gary O'Reilly gave Palace the lead in the 19th minute, but Robson levelled (37), and then Hughes (63) put United in the lead. 9 minutes later, Ian Wright scored to take the game into extra time, and then scored again in the 94th, only for Mark Hughes to make the game 3-3 in the 112th minute. Lee Martin grabbed the only goal of the replay in the 60th minute to make it 7 FA Cup victories overall for United.

1991: What trophy did United win this year?
    European Cup-Winners Cup. United beat Barcelona 2-1 on May 15th at Feyenoord Stadion, Rotterdam. Steve Bruce gave United the lead in the 67th minute when he stretched for a Mark Hughes goalbound shot and gained a touch, although Hughes is widely credited for the goal. 7 minutes later it was 2-0 as Hughes broke clear, and fired low and hard into the bottom corner. Ronald Koeman pulled one back for Barcelona from a free kick in the 79th minute, but it wasn't enough and the cup was United's for the first time in their history. United also played in the League Cup Final, but were beaten by Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 with John Sheridan scoring the only goal of the game.
