Moreover, Malta until the Allies occupied Sicily, Malta was only a few minutes by air from some Italian bases.

    Marshal Badoglio. Umberto II was the last King of Italy (till 1946), Kesselring was the German Commanding Officer in occupied Italy and Giuseppe Garibaldi was an Italian national hero in the 19th century during the unification of Italy.

    Taranto. British Swordfish aircraft destroyed the bulk of Italian Navy. Of course, there was an important difference: war between Kindom of Italy and British Empire had already declared five months earlier. It wasn't a pre-emptive strike.
