The bear?

    Ursa Major. Part of it also known as the big dipper, Ursa Major is a navigator's tool to find the Polaris, the North Star.

The hare?
    Lepus. Being chased by Orion's dog Canis, Lepus the Hare is a winter constellation.

The dog?
    Canis Major. Canis Major is not hard to find, following his master Orion around the heavens.

The whale?
    Cetus. Although called a whale, it resembles the Loch Ness Monster more than anything alse. I guess the ancients had wacky imaginations.

The swan?
    Cygnus. Also known as the Northern Cross, Cygnus has a black hole as a part of the constellation.

The crow?
    Corvus. Corvus once brought Apollo his water every day, until he was detained by Hydra the water snake, his neighbor in the sky.

The charioteer?
    Auriga. Originating in the Middle East, the legend says Auriga was born lame, and needed a chariot to get about. Now he sails the skies.

The herdsman?
    Boötes. Boötes serves to herd the great bear (Ursa Major) around the pole.

The queen?
    Cassiopeia. Cassiopeia was a queen of Ethiopia who offended the nymphs and was banished to the skies.

The river?
    Eridanus. Often called the river of Orion, this is one river that flows freely all winter. Phaeton was thrown into its waters when he drove Sun's chariot too close to Earth.
