4. Alexis is the shyest of the children, who is often scared of new places and people, but she does surprise her parents by doing what on the ship?

Alexis was very scared of the thought that there might be dogs on the ship. George was the one who ran off and explored the ship. The book never talked about any of the children making friends on the ship.
5. On April 14, 1912 the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank. According to the book "No Greater Love",how long did it take for the beautiful ship to sink?

6. When the ship carrying the survivors reached New York, the Winfield children had family waiting for them.

Answer: False

The book never mentions them having any other family except Uncle Rupert and Aunt Liz. Ben Jones, their father's best friend, meets them at the train station in San Francisco.
7. Where does Uncle Rupert think that children should live after their parent's death?

Answer: with him and Aunt Liz in England

Rupert feels it his duty to have the children come and live with him, but Edwina feels that the place for her and the children is in their own home.
8. Once back in San Francisco, Edwina decides to keep her father's news paper. What is the name of the paper?

Edwina keeps the paper to support the family. She does sell it later on, after George leaves home for Hollywood, but until then she keeps it and runs it by herself with the help of Ben Jones.
9. In August, Edwina receives a gift that is both beautiful and painful. What is the gift and who sends it?

Answer: her wedding veil sent by Charles' s mother

Edwina and Charles never married as he died when the Titanic went down. The fabric that was to make her wedding dress also went down on the ship. The veil was sent to Edwina by Charles's mother, even though she is scared that it will upset Edwina. Edwina looks at it over the years and thinks about what might have been.
10. On the one year anniversary of Kate and Bert's death, who dies?

Answer: Uncle Rupert

Edwina and the children learn that Uncle Rupert died on the anniverary of their parent's death through a telegram from Aunt Liz. Aunt Liz and Phillip die some years later. Later in the book Edwina goes back to visit Charles' mother.

Answer: Harvard

All the Winfield men attended Harvard, even George.
12. After Phillip leaves for college, who runs away?

Alexis ran away because she misses Phillip so much and worries that he will never come home like their parents did. At this point in the book Fannie is five years old and Teddy is only three, both a little young to hop a train and go to Boston.
13. Edwina is very upset when Phillip decides to leave college and enter the war.

Answer: True

Edwina feels that Phillip is running out on them when the family needs him to run the paper. She is also very afraid that he will be hurt or killed.
14. After Phillip is killed, what does George do that shocks Edwina?

Answer: he leaves school and comes home to work at the paper

George moves back home and tried his hand at the family newspaper, but that does not last. Soon George is headed to Hollywood.
15. George goes to Hollywood to work with the uncle of a school friend. What is his name?

Answer: Sam Horowitz

Both Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks are actors of that era and Malcolm Stone shows up later in the story.
16. Edwina and the children learn that Aunt Liz dies just after The Great War is over. What does she leave them?

Answer: her personal fortune

Rupert's nephew inherits his title as well as his home and land. Edwina is very glad to have the money; it means that she can take care of herself for the rest of her life.
17. When Edwina and the children visit George in Hollywood for the first time, whom did they meet at the Hollywood Hotel?

Answer: Helen Horowitz

Although they do see Wallace Beery, Mary Pickford and Lillian Gish during this trip to Hollywood, the book never states that they met. Helen Horowitz is Sam's daughter and becomes very important in George's life.
18. On another visit to Hollywood, Alexis meets Malcolm Stone and has dinner with him while Edwina and George are at a party. After being caught by her older siblings Alexis had nothing else to do with Mr. Stone.

Answer: False

One of the best scenes in the book is when George and Edwina dash off to Mexico to rescues Alexis from Malcolm, and George hits him not once but twice. Even after this Alexis runs off with him again, but this time George is on his honeymoon and cannot help his sister.
19. When George marries Helen Horowitz, all the Winfields have a role in the wedding, and Edwina brings Helen a very special gift. What is it?

Answer: her wedding veil

Edwina asks Helen to wear the veil in memory of a love that never died, hers for Charles. She keeps her engagement ring in her jewel box at home and looks at it from time to time.
20. When Alexis runs off after George's wedding, why does Edwina feel that she cannot turn to Ben Jones for help?

Answer: She does not want to admit to him how she failed

Although Edwina did refuse to marry Ben, he still keeps in touch with her and the other children. By this time he is happily married and expecting a baby. Edwina does not want to admit to him that she failed her family. She turns to Sam instead and he finds that Malcolm Stone has left town. After this, Edwina is on her own to bring Alexis back.
21. On the ship to London, whom does Edwina meet and what relation to Charles is he?

Answer: Patrick Sparks-Kelly, Charles's cousin

William and Phillip Whitfield are charters from another Danielle Steel book, "Jewels". I made up Alexander Fitzgerald. The book only mentions Charles as having a sister but no more information is given on her. Patrick helps Edwina find Alexis once they are in London, and he helps her with more than that.
22. Edwina admits to Patrick that she is still angry with her mother because her mother died.

Answer: True

Edwina feels that Kate loved Bert too much, so much that she died with him because she could not live without him. Even years later, Edwina is still angry with her mother, but Patrick helps Edwina overcome her feelings.
23. What ship does Edwina and Alexis travel back home on?

Answer: Olympic

The three ships that The White Star Line created to be the best ships on the ocean were the Olympic, the Titanic and the Britannic. Of course everyone knows what happened to the Titanic. The Britannic was completed just before the onset of World War I and was made into a hospital ship. Sadly the Britannic hit a land mine and followed her older sister to the bottom of the ocean.

The Olympic was the only ship of the three that did not sink, but many felt that the whole shipping line was cursed. The Olympic stayed in service for many, many years, until newer, faster ships forced the line to retire the great ship and sell her for scrap.

Although the Queen Mary was a ship, it is never mentioned in this book. The Paris is the ship that Edwina meets Patrick on their way to London.
24. Once home, George calls his family and invites them down for Thanksgiving. During the same call, George tells Edwina that he had a strange dream about her one night. What was the dream?

Answer: He dreamed that she was on a ship again

George dreamed that Edwina was on a ship, which of course she was. The dream upset him so much that he woke Helen up and got her pregnant.
25. At the end of the book, who does Edwina end up with?

Answer: Sam Horowitz

Ben Jones is not mentioned often in the last part of the book. Patrick cannot be with Edwina because he is married and cannot divorce his wife. Malcolm Stone is not heard of again after Edwina and Patrick get Alexis from him in London. Sam tells her that he wants to be there for her and he would like her to be there for him. And finally she understood the reason her mother had died with Bert, because there was no greater love then Kate had for Bert, or Edwina had for the five children that she had raised, or that she might have for Sam and perhaps their children someday.
