Fun Trivia: F : Famous First Lines

Special Sub-Topic: Novel's Opening Lines

'Sally.'

The Stand. The Stand is one of Stephen King's most fascinating books. It's one of my favorites by him.

'It was the hour of twilight on a soft spring day toward the end of April in the year of Our Lord 1929 and George Webber leaned his elbows on the sill of his back window and looked out at what he could see of New York.'
You Can't Go Home Again. This is the book that's always mentioned when someone comes back home after being gone away.

'Mira was hiding in the ladies' room.'
The Women's Room. Out of all the books Marilyn French has written, this one is by and far the best. I have three copies of it and read it on a regular basis.

'The taxi, an old Rover smelling of cigarette smoke, trundled along the empty, country road at an unhurried pace.'
The Shell Seekers. Rosamunde Pilcher's finest work! The wonderful story of Penelope and her family, Nancy, Olivia and Noel.

'Th city is broiling in an early summer heat wave and for the third day in a row Victoria buys a salad from the Korean market around the corner and has lunch at her desk.'
Summer Sisters. Yes, Judy Blume writes great books for grown-ups too!

'When he was nearly thirteen, my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow.'
To Kill A Mockingbird. I read this for the very first time and was moved to tears. One of my favorite books.

'An iridescent confetti of snow tarnished by sodium arc lights sifts from the void over the glowing horizontal bulk of Greenspark Academy.'
One on One. Tabitha King is as good of, if not better, a writer than her famous husband. Out of all her books this is one of my favorites.

'Novalee Nation, seventeen, seven months pregnant, thirty-seven pounds overweight - and superstitious about sevens - shifted uncomfortably in the seat of the old Plymouth and ran her hands down the curve of her belly.'
Where The Heart Is. No matter what they say in the movie, Novalee is wary of SEVENS, not fives!

'The Trivadrum Mail was on time.'
Slow Waltz In Cedar Bend. Another book by the same guy that wrote the chick novel 'The Bridges of Madison County.'

'Jail is not as bad as you might imagine.'
One True Thing. The story of a mother and a daughter, plus the battle to please Daddy.
