    Y. The only time Natalie Coughlin accomplished that was in the 4 X 100 meter womans medley relay. The American woman's team lead by over a body length after the first two events (the backstroke by Natalie and the breaststroke by Amanda Beard) but wound up with the silver medal in the event.

Prior to the 2004 Olympic games, it was speculated that American swimmer Michael Phelps would meet or exceed Mark Spitz's Olympic record of 7 gold medals in the Olympics. How many medals did Michael Phelps win in swimming?

    Ian Thorpe. Pieter van den Hoogenband was second winning the silver medal. Michael Phelps won the bronze setting the American record for this event. Pieter van den Hoogenband and Ian Thorpe had the ten fastest times for this event going into the Olympics.

The Americans won the women's 4 X 200 meter freestyle relay. They also smashed the world record by more then 2 seconds.
    T. The silver medal team from China finished near record pace for the event. Natalie Coughlin, Carly Piper, Dana Vollmer and Kaitlin Sandeno swam for the record breaking time of 7:53.42, the old record was 7:55.47. This was the oldest swimming world record at the time it was broken.

    Inge de Bruijn. Just 3 days before her 31st birthday, Inge de Bruijn of The Netherlands won the 50 meter freestyle. Malia Metella of France won the silver medal and Lisbeth Lenton of Australia won the bronze. Joyce finished 5th and Thompson finished 7th.

Ian Crocker won the men's 100 meter butterfly final, setting the stage for him to swim in the men's 4 X 100 medley relay for the United States.
    F. Michael Phelps won this event in an Olympic record time of 51.25. Phelps declined his position to which sent Ian Crocker to the record breaking medley relay race. Crocker finished just .04 seconds behind Phelps.

Who won the men's 200 meter backstroke?
    Aaron Peirsol. Aaron Peirsol won the gold medal 2.4 seconds ahead of the silver medalist. Markus Rogan of Austria won the silver, Razvan Florea from Romania won the bronze, and James Goddard finished 4th.

What country won the men's 4 X 100 medley relay?
    United States. The United States won with a world record time of 3:30.68. Germany won the silver with Japan winning the bronze. Australia was not in the finals.

Which member of the American woman's 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay was the youngest?
    Dana Vollmer. Dana Vollmer was 16 years old. The announcer stated during the event that her school had started that day. (I could imagine the excuse note for school, "Please excuse Dana for for being absent from school, she had to set a world record and win a gold medal in the Olympics.) The other members of the relay team were in their 20's. Amanda Beard was not on that relay team.
