Sir John A. MacDonald was elected in Marquette, MB in 1878. Thirty years before Meighen was elected in Portage, MB in 1908. Borden and King never ran in Manitoba. MacDonald never ran in Manitoba again.

Sir John A. MacDonald's, son Sir Hugh John, became premier of Manitoba in 1900, but only stayed in office for nine months. He resigned on October 29, 1900 to run in the November 7 federal election - only to be defeated by fewer than 1,000 votes. Russell Paulley was the only NDP leader to not become premier.
