    Otto I. Though insane, he was the King. The Regent was Prince Liutpold and after his death in 1912 Prince Ludwig took over; after Otto's death in 1913 he became king Ludwig III. Ludwig II was Otto's predecessor, but he went slghtly mad too.

Mexico has known two emperors since its independence in 1821. One was Maximiliano of the house of Habsburg, who ruled 1864-1867 and was a brother of the Austrian emperor Franz Joseph. What was the name of the other one, who ruled 21 May 1822-29 March 1823?
    Agustin & Agustin de Iturbide. Initially he was president of the provisional governing junta, but on 21 May 1822 he proclaimed himself emperor. He was deposed in 1823, returned to Mexico to conquer power again, but was executed on 19 July 1824.

    Karl von Wedel. Wilhelm II was king of Prussia and emperor of Germany at that time and Hugo Zorn von Bulach was secretary of state 1908-1914. Hermann von Hohenlohe-Langenburg was Karl von Wedel's predecessor.

Who was *very* briefly ruler of England and Ireland in 1553?
    Jane Grey. She Edward VI's successor, son of the much-married Henry VIII, and granddaughter of his sister Mary. She was proclaimed queen of England and Ireland on 10 July 1553, but abdicated nine days later and was beheaded 12 February 1554. Guilford Dudley was her husband. Henry FitzRoy was an illegitimate son of Henry VIII and Catherine Parr was his sixth and final wife.

Who was de facto ruler of Portugal 1828-1834?
    Miguel I. Initially he was regent for his brother king Pedro IV from 1826 and later for his niece Maria II, but he proclaimed himself king in 1828. In 1834 he was deposed by the troops of Pedro IV. Fernando II was king-consort of Portugal and married to Maria II and he was regent of Portugal 1853-1855.

Who was king of Greece 1832-1862?
    Otto von Bayern. He was the first king of Greece and son of Maximilian I, King of Bavaria, but he was deposed in 1862. His successor was prince Wilhelm, son of Christian IX, King of Denmark, who as George I was put on the throne. Count Johannes Capo d'Istria was a Greek statesman who lived 1776-1831.

What is the name of the house that ruled France roughly from 987 until the French Revolution in 1792 and from 1814 until 1848, and which brought forth branches with famous names like Bourbon, Anjou and Orleans?
    The House of Capet. Branches also ruled Spain, the Two Sicilies, Parma and Portugal.

Who was the last sultan of the Ottoman Empire?
    Mehmet VI. He ruled from 1918 until the abolition of the monarchy in 1922 by Mustafa Kemal, better known as Ataturk. Mustafa IV was sultan 1807-1808 and Bulent Ecevit is the current prime minister of Turkey.

Who was he last grand duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz?
    Adolf Friedrich VI. He commited suicide on 23 February 1918, some nine months before Germany lost World War I and the monarchy was abolished. Four days later Friedrich Franz IV, grand duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin was appointed regent, not grand duke. Adolf Friedrich V was the predecessor of Adolf Friedrich VI and Karl Ludwig Friedrich was the first grand duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
