When was AC Milan founded?

    1899. On December 16th, 1899 to be exact. The gentleman responsible for this historic feat was Alfred Edwards.

AC Milan played its first match on March 11th, 1901. Where did Milan's opponent come from?
    Milan. AC Milan wasn't the first club to be founded in Milan. Mediolanum (Latin for Milan) already existed. But Milan ran out victorious, winning 3-0.

From the very start Milan had a bright star in its ranks. What was his name?
    Renzo de Vecchi. Later on De Vecchi went to Genoa. During that time he became not only an international, but also the captain of the Italian national team.

How many names did AC Milan officially have in the 20th century?
    3. Milan started off as Milan Cricket and Football Club in 1899. Within five years the name had changed into Milan Football Club. In 1938 the club got its name we know today: Associazione Calcio Milan, although soon the club was obliged to call itself Milano by the Fascist regime under Mussolini. But in 1945, after the demise of the fascists AC Milan became permanent.

From the very beginning, AC Milan was lucky to have a president with money to spend. Who was he?
    Pietro Pirelli. Around the turn of the 20th century, Pietro Pirelli was already in the business of making tyres , and it was a fortunate thing for Milan to have him as a president.

It didn't take Milan too long to win its first title. When did this happen?
    1901. The Italian competition was only four years young, and all first three titles were won by Genoa. AC Milan was the first to break the Genoa stranglehold on the championship, beating them 1-0 in the final of the play-offs.

In 1906 and 1907, Milan were the best again. But after that it took a while before they were crowned champions. How long did that take?
    44 years. Yes, it was not until 1951 that AC Milan won the scudetto again, thanks to some international signings.

When did the San Siro come about?
    1926. Thanks to Mister Pirelli, the San Siro was opened on September 19th 1926. It had a capacity of just 10,000, not that impressive compared to what is today of course, with a maximum of 85,000. At its height however, San Siro could accommodate 150,000 people.

In 1908, disgruntled Milanisti broke away and formed their own club: Internazionale. The same year the two clubs met for the first time ever. Who won?
    AC Milan & Milan. They beat the Nerazurri 2-1.

AC Milan competed in the first European Cup as a champion?
    True. Which is not as logical as it may seem. Sixteen teams competed in this competition. Two of them were from one country, PSV Eindhoven had not won the title in Holland, nor had Rapid Wien in Austria, or Servette from Switzerland. But Milan did belong in this competition as the number one Italian club from 1955.

AC Milan won its first European Cup in 1963 at Wembley. Benfica was beaten 2-1. Who scored both goals for Milan?
    Altafini. Brazilian José Altafini saved the day. Benfica had taken the lead in the first half through Eusebio, but a double from Altafini on 58 and 70 minutes, secured the European Cup for Milan.

From what country did the famous Gre-No-Li line come?
    Sweden. Gunnar Gren, Gunnar Nordahl, and Nils Liedholm, formed a formidable Milan-threesome in the fifties, with Nordahl the striker and the other two players influential in midfield.

Gunnar Nordahl was a prolific goalscorer for Milan. How many times did he hit the mark in 257 matches in the Serie A?
    212. What's in a name? Gunnar Nordahl could appropriately be called the Gunner of Milan, with this average of 0.82 goals a match.

Italian clubs are called after the color of their strip. What is the nickname of AC Milan in that respect?
    Rossoneri. Bianconeri is the white and black from Juventus, Rossoblu the red and blue from Genoa, and biancocelesta is the white and light blue from Lazio.

Has Giuseppe Meazza ever played for Milan?
    Yes. After having spent twelve years at Internazionale, Meazza moved to Milan where he played from 1940 to 1942. In 37 matches he scored 9 goals.
