September 22nd 1692 : In this town was the largest number of "witches" were hanged at one time - six women and a man. What town was this?

    Salem. Salem's early history was darkened by the witchcraft trials of 1692, in which Samuel Sewall was a judge; many of the victims came from the part of Salem that now is Danvers.

September 22nd 1711 : The settlers on Chowan and Roanoke Rivers in Carolina were massacred by these Native Americans.
    Tuscarora. The Tuscaroras, related to the Iroquois, lived in north Carolina, where they maintained friendly relations with the colonists. Trouble began when the white settlers began to take advantage of the Tuscaroras, encroaching on their farmland, cheating them in trade, and in some cases kidnapping and selling their children into slavery. In the end, the Tuscarora were at their time brutally massacred and the surviving Tuscaroras migrated to New York, where in 1722 they became the sixth nation in the Iroquois League.

    Nathan Hale. He volunteered for the dangerous mission of getting information about the British forces on Long Island, where he went in the natural disguise of a schoolmaster. He was discovered, captured, and hanged without trial.
