Special Sub-Topic: Super TV Trivia IX

"Sábado Gigante", one of television's longest running programs, made its debut in 1962 in what country?

Chile. Hosted by Mario Kreutzberger (a.k.a. Don Francisco) since its inception on Canal 13 in Santiago, the long-running variety show was originally titled "Sábados Alegres", which translates into "Happy Saturdays" in English. In 1986, "Sábado Gigante" began production at Univision's studios in Miami.

John Bunnell, the host of the Fox series "World's Wildest Police Videos" from 1998 to 2002, was a law-enforcement officer in King County, Washington.
    F. Bunnell served for over 25 years in the Sheriff's Office in Multnomah County, Oregon, which is seated at Portland. In fact, long before he became host of "Police Videos", he was seen on some early episodes of another Fox series, "Cops". Bunnell also lent his narrative stylings to "World's Scariest Police Chases", a video game based on his TV series.

On "The New Treasure Hunt", which ran in syndication from 1973 to 1977, what was the top cash prize that a contestant could win?
$25,000. Chuck Barris, who is better known for producing such shows as "The Gong Show", "The Newlywed Game" and "The Dating Game", resurrected "Treasure Hunt" in 1973 and again in 1980. Geoff Edwards hosted both Barris incarnations.

Lifetime Television's female-oriented crime drama, "The Division", was set in which city?
San Francisco. Created by Deborah Joy LeVine, "The Division" ran from 2001 to 2004 on Lifetime. The ensemble cast featured Bonnie Bedelia, Nancy McKeon, Lisa Vidal and Tracey Needham as big-city police officers trying to manage challenging personal and professional lives.

Before becoming co-host of the GSN game shows "Lingo" and "PlayMania", Shandi Finnessey served as Miss USA 2004. Which state did she represent in the pageant?
Missouri. In addition to being an advocate of breast cancer and ovarian cancer research, Shandi Finnessey competed in the Miss America pageant in 2002 and in the Miss USA pageant in 2004. She was first runner-up to Australia's Jennifer Hawkins at the 2004 Miss Universe contest. And she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Lindenwood University in suburban St. Louis in 1999, after only three and a half years of study.

Which actress played Myra Sherwood, the girlfriend of Marcus Welby, during the first season of the ABC medical drama "Marcus Welby, M.D." (1969-70)?
Anne Baxter. The granddaughter of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and an Academy Award winner in 1946 for her supporting role in "The Razor's Edge", Anne Baxter played numerous roles on stage, in motion pictures and on television. Her work on "Marcus Welby" was limited to just one season, as Welby's character (Robert Young) remained an unattached bachelor for the rest of the show's run. Ironically, she worked with Young's "Marcus Welby" co-star James Brolin on the ABC series "Hotel" during that show's first three seasons, before dying of a brain aneurysm in December, 1985.

On the NBC/UPN series "In The House", pro football player Marion Hill (played by LL Cool J) was playing for which team before injuries derailed his career?
Oakland Raiders. During the first season, when "In The House" was on NBC, Marion Hill served as a nanny to divorcee Jackie Warren (Debbie Allen) and her two kids, teenager Tiffany (Maia Campbell) and nerdy Austin (Jeffrey Wood). When the show moved to UPN, Jackie moved from Los Angeles to Nashville, taking Austin with her and leaving Tiffany to finish high school. Alfonso Ribeiro, Lark Voorhees and Kim Wayans became regulars on the cast during the UPN portion of the run. "In The House" ran from 1995 to 1998.

Which of the following men did NOT host NBC's "Password Plus" during its run from 1979 to 1982?
Jim Perry. According to Wikipedia, "Password Plus" was originally supposed to be titled "Password '79". Its name was inspired by Carol Burnett, who said during a run-through of the new game, "this is more than Password, it's Password Plus." Allen Ludden, who was the host of the original series, hosted during its first season, until stomach cancer and a stroke forced him off. Bill Cullen substituted as host for four weeks during 1980. And Tom Kennedy hosted from 1980 until the show was cancelled in 1982.

In 1978, Mary Tyler Moore attempted a comedy/variety series, called "Mary", with disastrous results. Which of the following performers was NOT part of the repertory group that formed the cast of this ill-fated series?
Barbara Feldon. "Mary" lasted just three episodes, spanning September 24 to October 8, 1978, before CBS pulled the plug. That, of course, was a stark contrast to the success she enjoyed on the long-running sitcoms "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". Adding insult to injury, Moore's return to CBS in the spring of 1979, with the variety/sitcom hybrid "The Mary Tyler Moore Hour", and in the spring of 1985 with the more conventional sitcom "Mary", also met with failure. Barbara Feldon was not part of any of those efforts, but she was part of the short-lived "Marty Feldman Comedy Machine", which ran from April to August, 1972, on ABC. Feldon, of course, is best known for playing 99 on the spy sitcom "Get Smart".

Who played Wayne Szalinski, the eccentric inventor whose devices tend to wreak havoc on his family and others, in the syndicated TV series based on the Disney movie "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids"?
Peter Scolari. In the motion picture version of "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids", released in the United States in 1989, Rick Moranis played the role of Wayne Szalinski. The television version, which included 66 episodes aired between 1997 and 2000, featured Peter Scolari in the starring role. Thanks to Wikipedia, the Internet Movie Database, and "The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable Shows 1946-Present", by Tim Brooks and Earle Marsh, for additional information in this quiz.
